The Fans Have Voted: Bradley-Provodnikov voted as 'Fight Of The Year' so far!

By Jack Price @PriceyJ97 - @BoxingOpinions1

Bradley & Provodnikov gave us a night to remember!
What a year it has already been for action, excitement and thrills in boxing. The fights that were expected to be dull have turned into classics and the fights that we were expecting action in have lived up to the expectations too. Off the top of my head I can think of more than a few fights from this year that we will be remembered for years to come and I'm sure most other fight fans can too.

BoxingOpinions Interview: Mitchell Smith

We chat to highly-rated, up and coming super-featherweight Mitchell Smith. Currently 6-0, he is definitely one to look out for in Britain!

Fighter Of The Week - Lucas Matthysse

This week we have chosen Lucas Matthysse as our
fighters of the week...

It was a really tough choice this week as there were tons of impressive and inspirational performances from fighters across the globe. But with Matthhysse Vs Peterson headlining the entire weekend, it always looked as though the winner of that fight was going to be chosen, and Matthysse made certain of it by winning in the fashion he did.

The Argentinian warrior, now 34-2 with 32 KO's, lived up to his reputation of being the pound-for-pound hardest hitter on the planet and stopped IBF 140lb champion Lamont Peterson in just 3 rounds. Just beating a guy like Lamont Peterson would have looked great on Matthysse's record but the fact that he did it so emphatically has almost guaranteed him the super-stardom he deserves in the future. He has now made a serious case for himself of being the No.1 light-welterweight on the planet and the opportunities he so badly deserve will finally come knocking.

BoxingOpinions Interview: Shane McPhilbin talks Cruiserweight Prizefighter

This weekend Prizefighter returns with 8 well-known British cruiserweights going head-to-head for the winner's rights and the £32,000 prize money at York Hall, Bethnal Green. One man enters the tournament for a second time, this time with even more at stake and more to prove. That men is Bulwell's Shane McPhilbin.

'The Block' (8-6, 5 KO's) got his first break after just 3 fights in the Heavyweight Prizefighter back in 2010. He only reached the semi-final but still became a better and more known fighter from it. Just over a year later his big break came when he defeated Leon Williams in spectacular and dramatic fashion, picking up the British title. However, since that career-high, things haven't quite gone to plan. The 27-year old suffered a controversial loss to Enzo Maccarinelli in his first defense and has also suffered three consecutive defeats since then too. But the motivated fan favourite refuses to give up and has vowed to BoxingOpinions that he will come back strong in this Prizefighter tournament on Saturday night.

Here is what he had to say:

Who are the Top 10 fighters in Britain today?

@BoxingOpinions1
The fans have voted, we received over 200 votes when we asked the question "Who do you believe are the top British fighters around today?" It was a close poll with most of the same names mentioned over and over again, but there were actually 24 different British fighters mentioned at one point, showing just how competitive the British boxing scene is right now. Interview with Denton Vassell

The British welterweight scene is bulging with talent right now and 28-year old Commonwealth welterweight champion Denton Vassell is right in the middle of it. After a long inactive spell Vassell blasted back onto the scene with a victory over Ronnie Heffron and looks set for a big 2013.

You impressed a lot of people with your dominant victory over British prospect Ronnie Heffron back in November.. Was it easier than you expected?

No fight's easy you just gotta stay focused, but I knew he wouldn't of beaten me ( without sounding disrespectful ) he's a good tough fighter. I had a game plan and I stuck to it.

The British welterweight division is thriving right now.. Who do you believe are your most serious competitors?

Everyone because I don't underestimate anyone. We all have to two arms, two hands, two legs and one head. Just get in the ring and see what happens.

Froch Vs Kessler II - Fans Thoughts

I'm sure you've all heard by now that IBF super-middleweight world champion Carl Froch's wish has come true and his highly-anticipated rematch with Mikkel Kessler has been confirmed to take place in Britain later this year. Not only British fight fans, but boxing fans all around the world have been calling for this fight for a very long time, and now it has finally been confirmed there's no surprise that we're all excited!

Here are what some of our Twitter followers had to say about the fight:

@MNG68: Long hard night for both fighters! Both wobbled at some point! But with home advantage, a narrow win for Froch.

@kiks1986: I can see Froch winning this one by a wider than should be points decision. Really looking forward to it though!

Changes To The Site

"The Boxing Hub"
(Those of you who are worrying about our Twitter account, do not worry. Our Twitter account will be remaining exactly the same!)

In case you haven't heard already, I will be making a few changes to the site. Really, now that I think about it, they are more additions than changes...
Basically, the site has been running pretty well lately but for it to really take off, I think it needs to be different to other boxing sites out there. News and updates are good but there's hundreds, maybe even thousands, of sites out there that provide you with boxing news. And obviously at the moment I can't compete with the top ones out there as this site is relatively new and I'm running it all on my own at the moment. As the site progresses and the more writers I recruit, the more news I will be able to give you.

So here's my idea:
Everything that is on the site now will be staying here. I will just be adding more and more pages, and more and more ideas as time goes on. I want this to be a place where a boxing fan can come and find whatever they need, whether that be results, rankings, videos, photos, podcasts, news or interviews. Hence the idea "The Boxing Hub." Everything a boxing fan needs, all in one place.

Here is what I have so far and what I will be adding in the future:

  • Results
  • Pound-For-Pound Lists
  • News
  • Interviews
  • Fans Page
  • Fighter Of The Week
  • Awards (In Progress)
  • Prediction League
  • ---------------------------
  • Podcasts
  • Constant Videos (Up to date footage of weigh-ins, face-off's etc.)
  • Schedule
  • Special Articles (Themed articles from boxing writers, pundits, coaches, fighters etc.)
  • Fight Previews
If you have any other ideas that you think could be added to the site, please let me know. (BoxingOpinions@hotmail.co.uk, @BoxingOpinions1, 07902170824).

A big thanks to all of you!

We've finally made it guys! The @BoxingOpinions1 Twitter account has reached 1000 followers! This article is basically a big thank you message to all of you #boxingheads out there as I really couldn't have done it without you!

When I set this account up, I never ever expected things to go like this. I originally attended it to be a place where a few boxing fans could chat and I'd just give my thoughts on the sport. But then it just took off! I started posting debates and questions and then all of you responded. And I think this just shows how much passion boxing fans have for the sport and that there is a place for everyone in this sport.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The fans are the most important thing in boxing. And they deserve a place where they can be heard and get their views and opinions across, which is what I aim to do. So far, I think it has gone pretty well and I hope you do to, but trust me, it's not over yet... I intend to keep improving the Twitter page and the website day by day. Also remember! If you ever have an idea or a way I can improve BoxingOpinions you know where I am and please let me know.

February 21st is the day I set this up... 3 days after the night of the infamous "Munich Brawl" between David Haye and Dereck Chisora. This incident actually sparked the idea in my head to set this account up. So many people were ranting, accusing and discussing this event but nobody was listening. So I wanted to set this up so people could be listened to, and listen to others. Hence our motto; "The link between the fans and the boxing world."

This brings me to the fighters, promoters, manager, trainers, journalists etc. who have got involved with BoxingOpinions... Because, once again, we couldn't have done it without them either. There's too many of them to name individually but they know who they are and honestly I want to say a massive thank you to all of you! Thanks for the interviews, shout-outs, debating and everything else. You are credits to the sport.

So to sum it all up... A big thank you to all of you and please, please, please keep the support coming. Let's try and make this as big as possible!

Interview With Derry Mathews

You are competing in what is probably the highest-level Prizefighter to date.. How do you fancy your chances?

Am the one people have to beat in it and I believe I can win it have trained hard had great sparring just want it to hurry up now.

Who in the Prizefighter do you see as your biggest competition?

I think over 3 rounds liverpools ste Jennings is a massive threat , but everyone in it is very good fighters. I respect all of them.

There have been a lot of people asking for another fight between you and Anthony Crolla.. Can you see this fight happening again?

I hope it happens again I love fighting the best I believe ant is one of the best and I no the fans would love to see it.

Your clash with Crolla was almost like a "last chance" fight for you. You were considered as a massive underdog.. Did you expect to win in the way you did?

Before the fight I said in interviews everything I was going to do like put him over cut him take him places have never been before , even on twitter I predicted the round.

Your most recent fight was with Gavin Rees.. Would you like a third fight with him somewhere down the line?

Of course like have said I love testing myself Gavin is world class there was no shame loosing to him I hope he wins a world title again.

Who is the best fighter you have fought so far in your career?

On paper and what they have achieved has to be Gavin Rees. Great fighter.

How did you get into boxing?

I lived next door to the salisbury abc also known as the solly so that was my home from age of 8.

At the age of 28, you still have a long career ahead of you.. What are your aims and objectives for the future?

I just want to keep making the fans happy and have a good few more fights I have a aim to get to 50 then i'll walk away a happy man.

If you could fight any boxer in the world right now, who would it be?

I would love the winner out of burns and Mitchell like I said I love testing myself have sparred burns and I felt I held my own.

FAN ZONE (Questions From Our Fans):

Who inspired you when you were just a young boxer?

I always looked up to David Burke I would sit in the solly and watch him train then I was lucky enough to be a training partner of his in the pro game

If you don't win Prizefighter.. What's next?

I'll sit down with my team and discuss but surely I have to be mandatory if Gavin (Rees) vacates British title.

Want has been the best moment of your career so far?

Beating Steve foster in front of all those manchester fans for world title and also beating crolla on his on turf I have a habit of beating mancs in there own town ;)
