Fighter Of The Week - Adonis Stevenson

This week we have chosen Adonis Stevenson as our
fighter of the week...

By Jack Price @PriceyJ97 - @BoxingOpinions1

The easiest choice I've had to make so far this year - Adonis 'Superman' Stevenson for Fighter of The Week. The 36-year old burst onto the light-heavyweight world scene back in June with a devastating 1st round KO over the division's No.1 and WBC world champ Chad Dawson. And now he's kept the incredible momentum going with a 7-round demolition job over former IBF champ Tavoris Cloud.

Fighter of The Week - Raymundo Beltran

This week we have chosen Raymundo Beltran as our
fighter of the week...

By Jack Price @PriceyJ97 - @BoxingOpinions1

Well, boxing came back with a bang this weekend as the new season begun. We were given upsets, knockouts and more impressive performances. There are a few fighters that could have been given this award this week, and I'll give them a mention later, but for me, one man deserves it more than the rest. Especially after he didn't get what he deserved in the ring.

Fighter Of The Week - Jhonny Gonzalez

This week we have chosen Jhonny Gonzalez as our
fighter of the week...

By Jack Price @PriceyJ97 - @BoxingOpinions1

It's an obvious choice this week really.. There were a lot of impressive performances from the fighters in action but it was only man that caused a massive stir in the boxing world has got the fans talking. That man is Jhonny Gonzalez, who last night scored a devastating 1st round knockout loss over the heavily favored Abner Mares.

Fighter Of The Week - Curtis Stevens

This week we have chosen Curtis Stevens as our
fighter of the week...

By Jack Price @PriceyJ97 - @BoxingOpinions1

Curtis Stevens seems to be a fighter on a meteoric rise and he continued that last night showing meteoric power with a 1st round KO over Saul Roman, proving that he is very much one to watch at middleweight. The short and stocky 28-year old is now on a 4-fight win streak and is becoming a known contender at this new lower weight.

Fighter Of The Week - Jesus Soto Karass

This week we have chosen Jesus Soto Karass as our
fighter of the week...

By Jack Price @PriceyJ97 - @BoxingOpinions1

Karass finishes the fight with a big left hook.
A very tough choice for me to make this week. The final big show of the season delivered the fireworks we were expecting and much, much more! All 3 fights on the bill (Chaves-Thurman, Figueroa-Arakawa & Berto-Karass) were main event worthy and gave the fans exactly what we wanted - Brutal action and thrilling excitement. All 6 fighters showed tremendous amounts of heart and deserve an honorable mention. But if we have to give this award to just one fighter, it has to be Jesus Soto Karass for me.

Fighter Of The Week - Sakio Bika

This week we have chosen Sakio Bika as our
fighter of the week...

By Jack Price @PriceyJ97 - @BoxingOpinions1

The main event was crazy, it was exciting, it was the one we all wanted to watch, but the performance from the winner Adrien Broner wasn't really a show-stealing performance. In fact nobdoy on the show last night, except for maybe Malignaggi, put on a better performance than we were expecting. But one man for me that does deserve a lot of credit is Sakio Bika. After years of trying and four previous attempts, the 34-year old finally achieved his dream of becoming world champion.

Fighter Of The Week - Terrence Crawford

This week we have chosen Terrence Crawford as our
fighter of the week...

By Jack Price @PriceyJ97 - @BoxingOpinions1

The obvious choice this week would be Mikey Garcia, the youngster who defeated Puerto Rican veteran Juan Manuel Lopez in devastating fashion in the Top Rank main event on Saturday night. But we were all expecting this guy to look impressive, like he always does, and as impressive as this 4th round KO was I think the weight issue just detracts from it a tiny bit. The man that did really impress me last night was Terrence Crawford.

Fighter Of The Week - Adonis Stevenson

This week we have chosen Adonis Stevenson as our
fighter of the week...

By Jack Price @PriceyJ97.

Stevenson celebrates upset victory!
What a weekend of boxing! For me it was probably the most exciting night of the year so far. There were so many action-packed fights, so many thrills and spills, but one man will be making headlines more than anyone else. And that man is Adonis 'Superman' Stevenson.

Fighter Of The Week - Carl Froch

By Jack Price @PriceyJ97.

Redemption! We all wanted Carl Froch to get it, and we knew if he did get it then he would be the man taking this award this week. It was a decent night of boxing with a few impressive performances, but nothing came close to the main event which made the PPV well worth paying £15 for. This fight was so big and anticipated that the winner was always going to be 'Fighter Of The Week.' And maybe that's what spurred 'The Cobra on ;) He wanted this award!

The fight lived up to expectations as Kessler, like we expected, did not just lay down and let Froch get the victory. He gave it his all and had a lot of success in the mid-rounds. Some of the shots he connected with would have actually knocked most super-middleweights out - but not the iron-chinned Carl Froch. The fight was close going into the last few rounds but it was Froch that dug deep and showed he wanted it that little bit more. He even came close to stopping the tough Dane in the final round!

Fighter Of The Week - Lucas Matthysse

This week we have chosen Lucas Matthysse as our
fighters of the week...

It was a really tough choice this week as there were tons of impressive and inspirational performances from fighters across the globe. But with Matthhysse Vs Peterson headlining the entire weekend, it always looked as though the winner of that fight was going to be chosen, and Matthysse made certain of it by winning in the fashion he did.

The Argentinian warrior, now 34-2 with 32 KO's, lived up to his reputation of being the pound-for-pound hardest hitter on the planet and stopped IBF 140lb champion Lamont Peterson in just 3 rounds. Just beating a guy like Lamont Peterson would have looked great on Matthysse's record but the fact that he did it so emphatically has almost guaranteed him the super-stardom he deserves in the future. He has now made a serious case for himself of being the No.1 light-welterweight on the planet and the opportunities he so badly deserve will finally come knocking.

Fighter of The Week - Floyd Mayweather

This week we have chosen Floyd Mayweather as our
fighter of the week...

How easy the decision was this week... The fans voted unanimously and I 100% agreed with them. Floyd Mayweather Jr is without doubt the 'Fighter Of The Week.'

It's difficult to find the words to sum up just how good this man is. My boxing coach actually texted me halfway through the fight saying "Mayweather... Different gravy." And that's exactly what he is - Levels above any other fighter in the world today, especially in his weight class (welterweight). There isn't really anyone at 147lb right now that I can see even testing Mayweather. There are a few up and coming stars that may give him a test in the future but they aren't ready yet.

Fighter Of The Week: Mike Alvarado

This week we have chosen Mike Alvarado as our
fighters of the week...

The tough 32-year old avenged the only loss of his career by putting on a career-best performance beating the highly-rated Brandon Rios by unanimous decision. Alvarado was stopped in the 7th round in their first meeting and looked to be hurt again in the 2nd round of this one. But he proved his physical and mental strength by coming back strong and out-boxing Rios. For the majority of the fight Alvarado was even beating Rios at his own game, out-working the former world champ on the inside.

Alvarado is now the interim WBO light-welterweight champion and finds himself in a great position right in the middle of the most competitive weight division in boxing today. There's so many big fights out there for the Denver-native right now so expect to see him in action again soon. Could we see him turn into one of the sport's unexpected superstars?

Fighter Of The Week - Robert Stieglitz

This week we have chosen Robert Steiglitz as our
fighters of the week...

There wasn't much mainstream action in boxing this weekend, and the show we were all looking forward to (Abraham-Stieglitz II in Germany) was a slow-burner for the fans and the fighters in the first few bouts of the night. But thankfully a man named Robert Steiglitz saved the day with a career-best performance on the way to winning back his WBO super-middleweight title in a rematch with Arthur Abraham, the man that took the title from him in the Summer of last year.

Fighter Of The Week: Bernard Hopkins

This week we have chosen Bernard Hopkins as our
fighter of the week...

By Jack Price @PriceyJ97.

Who else would it be? The easiest choice I've ever had to make. Bernard 'The Executioner' Hopkins should be considered as the fighter of this era, not just the fighter of the week. The Philadelphian tactician has made history once again by breaking his own record and becoming the oldest ever world champion at the age of 48. He did this by beating highly-rated 31-year old Tavoris Cloud in a more one-sided match-up than anyone was expecting.

Most fans know never to rule B-Hop out, but there were many people who were picking against him in this fight. His speed and reactions seemed to be slowing in recent outings and Cloud was a young hungry champion with something to prove. However, it was soon clear that this was going to be Hopkins's night. Cloud just didn't know what to do with the slippery old man that stood in front of him. Everything he tried had little or no effect on his much more experienced opponent.

Hopkins, who knows every trick in the book, frustrated Cloud by slowing the pace down and making him miss wildly over and over again. There were even times when Hopkins was using the famous Ali Rope-A-Dope tactics and it was working perfectly. This was the best performance from Hopkins in many years. He was fighting like a 40-year old in there, throwing more combinations than ever and picking apart his clearly-fazed younger opponent. The result at the end of the fight was clear. We didn't even need the scorecards. Hopkins, his team, and the fans were already celebrating. The actual scorecards were: 116-112, 116-112 & 117-111 all in favour of Hopkins. It was now official. He was once again a history-maker. His place is now even more cemented in the Hall Of Fame.
