This coming Saturday evening live on Boxnation we have the rematch between former WBO Cruiserweight Champion Enzo Maccarinelli(32) 36-6-0 28Ko’s VS the current Commonwealth Champion Ovill McKenzie(33) 21-11-0 10Ko’s, in the previous meeting between both hard punchers (McKenzie) won a 2^nd round controversial stoppage with some claiming the referee called a halt to the contest too quick after McKenzie had stunned Maccarinelli, although the stoppage seems “early” we have to try & view things with some wisdom & care.

Redemption In London

Last night at the o2 Arena in London, Carl Froch got the redemption that he was longing for, by defeating his good friend and old foe, Mikkel Kessler via unanimous decision. Froch is now the IBF and WBA super middleweight champion of the world and he is desperate to avenge the other defeat on his record, a points loss to Andre Ward.

Both men were in tremendous shape for this contest and they both did themselves proud. The respect shown between the two of them before, during and after the fight was a marvelous advert for boxing and they're both a credit to the sport.

Froch was clearly dominant in the first three rounds, as Kessler struggled to find his way past a rapier like jab that constantly speared into its target. But "The Viking Warrior" is a great fighter in his own right and he began to find his range in the fourth stanza. Excellent head movement and quick combinations got him back into things. As the fight heated up they traded heavy artillery, but Froch's punches appeared to stun Kessler.

On the 25th of May at the O2 arena in London IBF Super-Middleweight Champion Carl "The Cobra" Froch 30-2-0 (22 Ko's) takes on WBA Super-Middleweight Champion Mikkel "The Viking Warrior" Kessler 46-2-0 (35 Ko's) in a eagerly anticipated unification bout. Carl believes that the judges were harsh on him in there first fight in Copenhegan in 2010 where Kessler ripped the WBC title from him with a unanimous points victory. Kessler promised Froch a rematch a chance to avenge his defeat something Kessler was never given against Joe Calzaghe. Since their first bout both fighters have had tough fights Carl Froch returning with wins againt knockout artist Arthur Abrham the only fighter Carl never stood toe to toe with and smartly used his reach and boxing ability to win a landslide points win, he backed that up with a majority decision over the "Road Warrior" Glen Johnson a tough opponent, before losing heavily to pound for pound superstar Andre Ward. Two more bouts took place a devastating perfromance and in my opinion a career best from Froch to dismantle Lucian Bute who clearly froze on the occassion he was overwhlemed with Froch's pressure and was brutaly beaten by a prime Froch in 5 rounds. His final fight before this eagerly anticiapted rematch was announced, was Yusaf Mack who Froch quickly took out with precise punching in 3 rounds barley a test for the newly crowned IBF champion.

It is the week of the big one! On Saturday night IBF super-middleweight champion Carl Froch takes on WBA titleholder Mikkel Kessler in one of the most highly-anticipated rematches of all time. The boxing Twitter community has been going crazy for this one for months and now we're just days away. It's needless to say that we received more votes for this than any other fight this year, and we've done this for fights like Mayweather-Guerrero, Trout-Alvarez & Peterson-Matthysse. That shows just how big this fight is.

Now on paper and with most experts, this fight is 50/50. But British fans have got behind their man in this one and the voting shows it:

On May 25th at London's O2 Arena, Carl "The Cobra" Froch will face the same man that handed him his first professional defeat, Mikkel Kessler. It will be a unification battle for the IBF and WBA super middleweight titles.

The first fight between the two was an epic battle in Herning, Denmark in 2010. They traded heavy leather from the first bell until the last. Kessler won via unanimous decision to steal away Froch's WBC super middleweight title.

Froch came back strongly from his first defeat to comfortably defeat Arthur Abraham and Glen Johnson via unanimous decision and majority decision respectively. In doing so, he regained the WBC title. However, he would go on to lose the title again in 2011 to Andre Ward. Carl Froch has no quit in him though, as his next fight was against the highly rated IBF champion, Lucien Bute. "The Cobra" was the underdog ahead of fight night, but he laughed in the faces of the doubters with a five round demolition of Bute to become a three time world champion.

The big ones almost here people and soon the waiting shall be over, as this Saturday fans will pack London’s O2 Arena ahead of the eagerly anticipated rematch.

That’s right, Tony Bellew and Isaac Chilemba meet in a WBC eliminator for the second time after their action-packed twelve round battle back in March was scored an indecisive draw.

Ok, so the first encounter wasn’t really a classic, in fact rather a scrappy, fragmented affair with Bellew often frustrated by the tactics his tricky opponent employed. Chilemba was cautious and Bellew appeared to edge a number of the early rounds based on workrate alone with few punches landing, but was also made to miss badly as the Malawian produced the cleaner, better quality work down the stretch.

Fans vote Rosado as close winner in Rosado-Love!

The first big fight on the undercard of Mayweather-Guerrero last night was a highly-anticipated middleweight bout between former world title challenger Gabriel Rosado (21-7, 13 KO's) and Mayweather Promotions prospect J'Leon Love (16-0, 8 KO's). The fight was as exciting and as close as we expected if not more, but unfortunately ended with a little controversy after J'Leon Love was announced as the winner via split decision. The crowd booed the decision as they felt that Rosado, after landing some big shots and putting Love on the canvas, did enough to win the fight.

What next for 'Mile High' Mike?

'Mile High' Mike Alvarado avenged the only loss of his career last night with a career-best performance that earned him a unanimous decision victory over the highly-rated former world champion Brandon 'Bam Bam' Rios. It was an emphatic and impressive victory that could have risen Alvarado's stock massively. The 32-year old is now the interim WBO light-welterweight champion and finds himself in a great position right in the middle of the most competitive weight division in boxing right now.

So seeing as the victory is still fresh in our minds, let's weigh up the options for the Denver-native. Could he become one of the sport's unexpected superstars?

Well I don't see why not. Just look at guys at 140lb right now who could all be potential opponents for Alvardo in the near future:

This week we have chosen Mike Alvarado as our 

fighters of the week...

The tough 32-year old avenged the only loss of his career by putting on a career-best performance beating the highly-rated Brandon Rios by unanimous decision. Alvarado was stopped in the 7th round in their first meeting and looked to be hurt again in the 2nd round of this one. But he proved his physical and mental strength by coming back strong and out-boxing Rios. For the majority of the fight Alvarado was even beating Rios at his own game, out-working the former world champ on the inside. 

Alvarado is now the interim WBO light-welterweight champion and finds himself in a great position right in the middle of the most competitive weight division in boxing today. There's so many big fights out there for the Denver-native right now so expect to see him in action again soon. Could we see him turn into one of the sport's unexpected superstars?

Boxing fans are in for a treat this weekend as we get to see the 2012 ‘Fight Of The Year’ once again. That’s right, Brandon Rios and Mike Alvarado will go head-to-head in an all-out war for our enjoyment once again on March 30^th at the Mandalay Bay Casino in Las Vegas. Rios won the first fight via TKO in the 7^th round, but he did not have it all his own way. Alvarado had a lot of success in the early rounds and proved that technically he is the better boxer which makes this instant rematch a legitimate and mouth-watering fight for the fans.

The impressive win back in October means that Rios (31-0, 23 KO’s) remains undefeated with yet another decent name on his victim list. The 26-year old slugger has wins over the likes Alvarado, Miguel Acosta, John Murray and a controversial split decision victory over WBA lightweight world champion Richard Abril. His ruthless pressure and aggression allowed him to almost walk through Alvarado (33-1, 23 KO’s) from around the 5^th round onwards but he has shown in the past that he can be out-boxed, meaning there is still hope for Alvarado in this rematch.

Many people believe that Rios has an even bigger advantage going into this one after the beating he dished out in the 7th round of their last encounter before the referee stopped the fight. Arthur Abraham Vs Robert Stieglitz II - Fight Preview

'King Arthur' Abraham aims to defend the WBO super-middleweight title against Robert Stieglitz on Saturday, March 23. 

The pair are set to clash for a second time after their first meeting occurred last August in Berlin, Germany. This time around they meet at the GETEC arena in Magdeburg, Sachsen-Anhalt, Germany.

Abraham, 33, is Armenian-born, but is now a resident of Berlin, compared to Stieglitz, 31, who was born in Russia but now resides in Magdeburg, Sachsen-Anhalt. This, of course, now means that Stieglitz has home advantage, whereas before Abraham did.

That’s surely the only outcome when you put ‘The Bedford Bear’ Matt Skelton in the ring against ‘Big Bad’ John McDermott.

This Friday at the York Hall in Bethnall Green, the two veterans of the British heavyweight scene will meet for a second time, with each man bidding to get back into the domestic picture after setbacks in 2012.

Both Skelton and McDermott were early knockout victims of David Price in the last calendar year and with their Liverpudlian conqueror looking to vacate his British & Commonwealth titles in the near future – targeting redemption on the world scene in the wake of his own early knockout defeat – the winner of Friday night’s clash will be in the mix once again for national honours, as both men have remained mainstays of the heavyweight division in this country.

Anthony Mundine Vs Daniel Geale II - Fight Preview

January 30th 2013 is an important date for Australian boxing fans. Why ? Simply because two Australian idols will collide once more. On May 27th 2009 Anthony Mundine and Daniel Geale met in the ring for the first time. It was a good back and forth matchup between two good fighters with Mundine just edging it on the judges scorecards. Many think it was a controversial decision that should have gone Geale's way. This rematch will decide once and for all who is the better fighter of the two.

Geale , who hails from Launcesten , Tasmania Australia is a very good fighter. He won a Commonwealth gold medal at the 2002 Commonwealth games in the Welterweight division. Geale now boxes as a middleweight and is a two belt title holder. He won the WBA middleweight title against Felix Sturm in Germany. He went into the Sturm fight as the IBF champion. He won that title against Sebastian Sylvester , also in Germany. Going into the rematch Geale is a better fighter than what he was in the first Mundine fight four years ago.
