You’re 3 fights into your professional career.. How have you found the transition from the amateurs to the pro game so far?

Its been great. I'm loving it. I feel in my last fight I'm now finally starting to adjust and can't wait to progress. 

Bryant Jennings Q&A

Jennings may be a name new to some of those reading this, however he is a boxer very much on the up within the heavyweight division and possibly the best hope America has of regaining the heavyweight crown in the near future.

Bryant Jennings is a 28 year old heavyweight boxer with a record of 17 fights, 17 wins, 9 by KO and is currently ranked no 3 by the IBF.

Ian "Lay Em Out" Lewison is the 31 year old heavyweight boxer from Brixton, South London. He had a successful career as an amateur, beating both Helenius and Solis, finishing his AM career with a record of 67 wins and 5 losses.

Ian has had 10 pro fights, 7 wins (4 by KO), 2 losses and 1 draw. His last fight was in the semi final of Prizefighter and his next fight is a rematch with Colin Kenna on 13th July.

I was lucky enough to be able to ask Ian some questions lately and here are his answers...

BoxingOpinions Interview: Shane McPhilbin talks Cruiserweight Prizefighter

This weekend Prizefighter returns with 8 well-known British cruiserweights going head-to-head for the winner's rights and the £32,000 prize money at York Hall, Bethnal Green. One man enters the tournament for a second time, this time with even more at stake and more to prove. That men is Bulwell's Shane McPhilbin.

'The Block' (8-6, 5 KO's) got his first break after just 3 fights in the Heavyweight Prizefighter back in 2010. He only reached the semi-final but still became a better and more known fighter from it. Just over a year later his big break came when he defeated Leon Williams in spectacular and dramatic fashion, picking up the British title. However, since that career-high, things haven't quite gone to plan. The 27-year old suffered a controversial loss to Enzo Maccarinelli in his first defense and has also suffered three consecutive defeats since then too. But the motivated fan favourite refuses to give up and has vowed to BoxingOpinions that he will come back strong in this Prizefighter tournament on Saturday night.

Q&A with Hughie Fury!

World Junior Amateur Heavyweight Champion Hughie Fury made his professional debut just a few weeks ago and is looking to make a big impact on the current heavyweight division in Britain and worldwide. We caught up with the 18-year old and asked the following questions: 

What are your thoughts on the current heavyweight division? And what do you think you can add to it?

I think it's poor and I'm gonna give it what it's lacking. 

To become the youngest ever heavyweight champ you'll have to keep busy and gain a lot of experience.. How many times do you plan to fight this year?

At least 12 but I'm hoping 15 fights. 

Your debut was an impressive 2nd round stoppage victory over David Whittom.. How did you feel in the ring? Was it what you was expecting?

Yes best feeling ever it's always what I've wished for to get in the pro ring.

First of all, congratulations on your most recent win over Masataka Takehara. Did you expect it to be so easy?

To be honest I wasn't expecting it at all. He took Alex leapai the distance and I thought he would've been there for at least 5-6 rounds

Your next outing is in Melbourne on April 26th.. What do you know about your opponent Franklin Egobi?

At this stage I am fighting on that show but it's looking like I'll be fighting James toney.. Now that's a fight I've been looking for.. It's not 100% booked in but it's looking good.

You're moving closer and closer to a Commonwealth title shot against David Price.. Is it a fight you're ready for and would you travel to Liverpool to fight him?

I personally would like to have a few more fights and gain a little more experience and exposure before I face off against him... I'll travel anywhere to fight in the big fights, it doesn't bother me at all.

The British welterweight scene is bulging with talent right now and 28-year old Commonwealth welterweight champion Denton Vassell is right in the middle of it. After a long inactive spell Vassell blasted back onto the scene with a victory over Ronnie Heffron and looks set for a big 2013.

You impressed a lot of people with your dominant victory over British prospect Ronnie Heffron back in November.. Was it easier than you expected?

No fight's easy you just gotta stay focused, but I knew he wouldn't of beaten me ( without sounding disrespectful ) he's a good tough fighter. I had a game plan and I stuck to it.

The British welterweight division is thriving right now.. Who do you believe are your most serious competitors?

Everyone because I don't underestimate anyone. We all have to two arms,two hands, two legs and one head. Just get in the ring and see what happens.

Interview with Mark Thompson!

British welterweight/light-middleweight Mark Thompson (25-3, 15 KO's) recently competed in the welterweight Prizefighter tournament on January 19th. The Heywood-man was eliminated in the semi-final but looked to have only been able to use one hand. At the age of 31 he still believes that there is plenty more to come from in his career. 

You seemed to injure your right hand in the semi-final of Prizefighter on January 19th.. Could you explain the situation to us?

Was in the first fight against Rob Hunt when I injured my hand, but I hadn't put in all the work I did just to have the one fight, and to let all my fans down.

Are you planning to return to the ring anytime soon?

As soon as I can use my hand again, I will be back in the ring.

You've fought for international titles, but never British or Commonwealth.. Are these titles that you believe you can win at welterweight or light-middleweight?

Yes I believe I could win them at any, but I think I would be more comfortable at light-middleweight.

Interview With Martin Rogan

In just 17 fights you have already achieved a lot in your career... What has been your proudest moment so far? My proudest moments being the first ever winner of Prizefighter and commonwealth champion both proud moments cant separate. Tyson Fury, Sam Sexton and Audley Harrison are the three most notable fighters you have fought... Who was the toughest? My toughest fight was Matt Skelton.  If you had the chance to rematch Tyson Fury in the near future, would you take it? Yes I would take a rematch with fury in a heartbeat. You are a very big fan of the sport... Who are some of your favourite fighters around today? Martin lindsay, Carl Frampton, Carl Froch, Ricky Hitman Hatton. If you could fight any fighter of any era who would it be? It would be to fight Rocky Maricano, legend. A lot of people want to see you and Dereck Chisora meet in the ring... How much chance do you think there is of this happening? İ would love to give the fight fans what they ask for, Derek and the İron Man Rogan. He's a good fighter, it would be a massive fight. Frank Warren the man that can make it happen. When are you looking to return to the ring? İ hope to be back in the ring early 2013 god spares me.  At the age of 41 you're still going strong... How long can you see yourself continuing to box at a high level? Interview With Derry Mathews

You are competing in what is probably the highest-level Prizefighter to date.. How do you fancy your chances?

 

Am the one people have to beat in it and I believe I can win it have trained hard had great sparring just want it to hurry up now.

Who in the Prizefighter do you see as your biggest competition?

 

I think over 3 rounds liverpools ste Jennings is a massive threat , but everyone in it is very good fighters. I respect all of them.

There have been a lot of people asking for another fight between you and Anthony Crolla.. Can you see this fight happening again?

 

I hope it happens again I love fighting the best I believe ant is one of the best and I no the fans would love to see it.

Your clash with Crolla was almost like a "last chance" fight for you. You were considered as a massive underdog.. Did you expect to win in the way you did?

 

Before the fight I said in interviews everything I was going to do like put him over cut him take him places have never been before , even on twitter I predicted the round.

Your most recent fight was with Gavin Rees.. Would you like a third fight with him somewhere down the line?

 

Of course like have said I love testing myself Gavin is world class there was no shame loosing to him I hope he wins a world title again.

Who is the best fighter you have fought so far in your career?

 

On paper and what they have achieved has to be Gavin Rees. Great fighter.

How did you get into boxing?

 

I lived next door to the salisbury abc also known as the solly so that was my home from age of 8.

At the age of 28, you still have a long career ahead of you.. What are your aims and objectives for the future?

 

I just want to keep making the fans happy and have a good few more fights I have a aim to get to 50 then i'll walk away a happy man.

If you could fight any boxer in the world right now, who would it be?

 

I would love the winner out of burns and Mitchell like I said I love testing myself have sparred burns and I felt I held my own.

Who inspired you when you were just a young boxer?

 

I always looked up to David Burke I would sit in the solly and watch him train then I was lucky enough to be a training partner of his in the pro game

If you don't win Prizefighter.. What's next?

 

I'll sit down with my team and discuss but surely I have to be mandatory if Gavin (Rees) vacates British title.

Want has been the best moment of your career so far?

 

Beating Steve foster in front of all those manchester fans for world title and also beating crolla on his on turf I have a habit of beating mancs in there own town ;)

Paul Williams' first TV interview since crash to be aired tonight!

Tonight, an exclusive interview with Paul 'The Punisher' Williams will be aired on the same show as the highly anticipated fight between Saul Alvarez and Josesito Lopez. It will be the first time Williams has appeared in an interview since the motorcycle crash that paralysed him from the waist down in May.

Williams was originally scheduled to be the opponent for Saul Alvarez tonight but the crash caused huge problems that means he will never able to fight again. However, Williams claims he will still remain involved in the sport and he starts that tonight by being part of the Canelo-Lopez broadcast in a special one-on-one interview with Jim Gray.

According to everyone that has spoken with Williams recently, he is very upbeat and optimistic for a guy who has just been what he has been through. Let's hope that Williams still manages to enjoy his life and stays part of the sport that made him who he is.. I'm sure he will!
