Paul Williams' first TV interview since crash to be aired tonight!

Tonight, an exclusive interview with Paul 'The Punisher' Williams will be aired on the same show as the highly anticipated fight between Saul Alvarez and Josesito Lopez. It will be the first time Williams has appeared in an interview since the motorcycle crash that paralysed him from the waist down in May.

Williams was originally scheduled to be the opponent for Saul Alvarez tonight but the crash caused huge problems that means he will never able to fight again. However, Williams claims he will still remain involved in the sport and he starts that tonight by being part of the Canelo-Lopez broadcast in a special one-on-one interview with Jim Gray.

According to everyone that has spoken with Williams recently, he is very upbeat and optimistic for a guy who has just been what he has been through. Let's hope that Williams still manages to enjoy his life and stays part of the sport that made him who he is.. I'm sure he will!

Paul Williams paralysed from the waist down after motorcycle accident!

The two-time welterweight champion and former pound-for-pound contender Paul Williams has been involved in a motorcycle accident that has ended his boxing career and has left him paralysed from the waist down.

The 30-year old was in Marietta to attend his brother's wedding to attend his brother's wedding on Monday and was driving back from the bachelor party around 7:00am. According to his long time manager George Peterson, Williams was going round a curb when he had to swerve out of the way of a driver who was on his cell phone. Williams is scheduled to have surgery on Wednesday in an attempt to stabilize his spinal column.

“He got separated from the motorcycle and must have gone about 65 feet in the air," said Peterson.  “He was doing about 75 mph on the motorcycle. When he came down, he came down on his back and when he came down on his back, of course he severed his spinal cord. He’s paralyzed from the waist down. In terms of him walking again... that will never happen.”


Peterson described Williams as still being in good spirits despite the seriousness of the injury that will mean he will never fight again and maybe never walk again. 


“It’s the same old Paul... As I was walking out of the door to talk to you, he said, ‘Believe me, if I don’t ever box again, I’m going to do some stand-up comedy.’ He’s not suffering.”


Williams was scheduled to fight young prospect Saul Alvarez for WBC light-middleweight title on September 15th. When Williams' promoter Dan Goosen was asked about the fight he didn't have much to say.


“To tell you the truth, [the fight] hasn’t entered my mind, in terms of his boxing career... This is obviously devastating news from a personal standpoint and I think, just trying to come to grips with his part of it is tough right now. Life just has a certain way of changing day by day. That’s why you cherish the time you have on this earth. It’s shocking news.”
