On Saturday night (September 21^st) on the undercard of Billy Joe Saunders Vs John Ryder at the CopperBox Arena, British heavyweight Dereck Chisora scored arguably the most impressive victory of his career, putting on a close to punch-perfect performance against tough German Edmund Gerber. The impressive victory not only pushed him up the rankings, but also earned him the EBU European heavyweight title.

The pair will battle it out over 10 rounds for the WBO International heavyweight title on July 20. David Haye is the only fighter to have claimed the title when he beat Chisora (TKO 5), last July.

Before I get started I want to make it clear I’m not a “hater” of Helenius, I respect every fighter that enters the ring but I feel the media, expectations and thoughts about the “Nordic Nightmare” should be adjusted considering his circumstances. 

Robert Helenius (19-0-0) had a promising start to his boxing career with success in the amateurs which included a silver in the amateur boxing championships in 2006 and at a stage in his amateur career featured a points victory over David Price! Since entering the pro ranks Helenius has been hyped as “The next big thing” especially in his homeland of Finland and on the Sauerland card on Saturday in Magdeburg he faced his next test in Michael Sprott(37-20-0).

“Robbe” is an unconventional fighter, lets be honest he doesn’t look like one and his entrance music Sonne by Rammstein says it all! From the first bell the tempo of the fight was set with Helenius controlling the pace with the jab but it was clear on the rare occasions that Sprott threw punches in bunches and moved forward he caused problems.

Can he back up his comments and claims?

Manuel Charr ranked 8th in the world by the WBC has a record of 22 fights, winning 21 of which 12 were by KO. His only loss was to Vitali Klitschko when he was stopped in the 4th round from a cut after being put on the canvas in 2nd round. That was 2 fights ago. He won his comeback fight Vs Konstantin Airich by a first round KO. A great way to bounce back from a loss by stoppage.

In recent weeks Charr has taken to twitter to "call out" some names including Fury and Haye for elimination fights so he can get another shot at Vitali. The loss to Vitali is something that clearly eats away at Charr and one which he truly belives he can avenge. 

There was mention of a possible fight with Chisora, but Charr has declined that offer saying he would only consider Haye. There was also a spat on twitter against "contender" (I use that description in it's loosest sense) Deontay Wilder, with Charr quite rightly dismissing Wilder's claims for a shot.

Robert Helenius preparing for ring return!

Undefeated Finnish heavyweight Robert Helenius (17-0,11 KO's) is now back in full training for the first time since his controversial victory over Dereck Chisora back in December of last year. The Nordic Nightmare, claimed that he had a shoulder injury going into the fight with Chisora and it got even worse during the hard-fought bout.

In a recent interview, Helenius stated that he has learned his lesson after paying the price for ignoring an injury and going through with a fight while injured.

Helenius is now back to full-time training and is expected to begin serious sparring very soon. The former European heavyweight champ should be ready to make a return in November.

His assistant trainer George Bramowsky claims that his fighter will be a big force in heavyweight division in the future:

"Robert is on the way back thanks to successful surgery and the goal is still the heavyweight championship of the world. The lay-off just caused a delay in the time table. He is big, technically skillful and can punch, he can also block punches and move away. Robert will be a nightmare for his opponents in the future as well."

What next for David "The Hayemaker" Haye?

Now that the dust has settled and beef has been resolved, if indeed there really was any,  speculation is rife as to what’s next for David “The Hayemaker” Haye [26-2 - 24 KOs] following his emphatic stoppage of a very game Derek Chisora [15-4 - 9 KOs]. With the revival of verbal jousting between the Haye and Klitschko camps in the media, it’s difficult to gauge the probability of Haye meeting Vitali Klitschko [44-2 - 40 KOs], despite the fact it would represent by far the most lucrative fight for both boxers. With due consideration of Vitali’s political ambitions, it has been suggested that fighting Haye will suddenly be much more likely to happen if Vitali underperforms in election cycle polls later this year. Considering how great an ambassador he has been for the sport, there are few boxing fans who wouldn’t wish Vitali well in his political career.

If a fight with Vitali doesn’t materialise, there is little else that would motivate Haye. A rematch with Wladimir Klitschko [58-3 - 53 KOs] undoubtedly would, but enthusiasm for such a fight would be significantly reduced, while Haye’s chances of victory would be no better than the first time round. On that night, Haye was extremely wary of Wlad’s one-punch KO power, as well as subordinate to a very underrated jab. Neither factors would be negated even if Haye didn’t have a toe complaint. Wladimir was able to cut-off the ring effectively enough to win a comfortable decision and would have no issues doing so again. After all, Haye’s tactics would almost certainly be very similar in a rematch. Of course, Haye would once again make bold claims about how he’d jump on Wlad from the opening bell, even though he didn’t even do that against Audley Harrison!

So what about a hypothetical match between Haye and Vitali? At a glance, the older Klitschko could be a more winnable fight for Haye. In comparison to Wladimir, Vitali has less one-punch KO power, less snap in his jab, inferior lateral movement, and prone to cuts. IVitali’s exceptional work rate, size and solid power with both hands has made him an insurmountable proposition for contenders and pretenders alike in today’s division, but how would he fare against an elusive opponent who is content to remain on the outside for large periods of a fight? To that, many may be of the view that Vitali’s performance against Chris “Rapid Fire” Byrd over a decade ago is evidence that he would fair well under such circumstances, but Haye is much bigger, hits harder and arguably has a higher work rate than what Byrd ever had. In addition, considering how much Vitali has slowed down at the grand old age of 41, it’s certainly not far fetched to suggest that Haye could outpoint him. For this reason, Haye vs Vitali would be a much more interesting and competitive fight than Have vs Wladimir II.

If Haye wanted a tune-up, he could respond to the challenge of Tyson Fury [19-0 - 14 KOs). Fury is looking for an opponent in November and Haye's physical dimensions would help Haye prepare for Vitali, but the modest payday may be too discouraging for Haye. It would be a tough fight to sell in terms of PPV due to the fact that Fury is still largely unproven and yet to appeal to a wide audience. Furthermore, if Fury's recent development is anything to go by, it would certainly not be a fight without its risks.

With talk of Haye going back into retirement if he is unable to fight Vitali, it's a possibility that we might not even get to see David Haye in action again, despite the fact he's aged just 31. Haye has always talked of his desire to retire early from the sport whilst his faculties are still intact. If he does bow out, the heavyweight division will certainly be worse off for it. On the financial side of things, Haye has a massive fanbase in the U.K. and is a large PPV draw. As for what he brings to the table in terms of ability, Haye is a very good heavyweight in today's era. Ever stepping up a weight class in pursuit of new challenges, Haye has maintained his cruiserweight speed and harnessed genuine heavyweight power. Just ask Mr. Chisora, who was stopped for the first time against Haye inside 5 rounds, yet was able to withstand 12 rounds of punishment against Vitali earlier in the year. Not to say Haye has more power than Vitali, but it's impressive nonetheless considering Chisora's excellent durability. It confirms that Haye, despite not being a natural heavyweight, is capable of KOing anyone in the division. Love him or hate him, Haye is a top #3 heavyweight for as long as he chooses to stick around.

Haye comes back with a bang!

Last night (July 14th), the highly anticipated grudge match between David Haye and Dereck Chisora took place at Upton Park. 


When the fighters were making the way to the ring, for each fighter, it was the complete opposite reaction. Chisora was first to face the crowd and was welcomed with loud boo's from a very hostile crowd. There were a few cheers for the 28-year old but I think he relished being the villain. When Haye entered the arena, the crowd came alive and loud roar circulated the whole place. All that was left now was for Michael Buffer to send chills down the spine of every fan watching in the stadium and at home by saying those trademark words... "LET'S GET READY TO RRRRUUUUUMMMMMBBBBBLLLLEEEEEEEE!!!"

And that was it, all the trash-talking, hyping showing off was behind them. All that was left to do now was the two men to have it out in the ring and prove that they were the one who was correct in their pre-fight predictions.

When the first bell rang, both fighters came out fast and just tried to work each other out. Haye got the better of the first few minutes and probably did enough to take the first round. From the start of the second to around halfway through the fourth round, Chisora started to bring himself back into the fight and looked as though he was tiring Haye out. He repeatedly pinned him to the ropes and just pummelled away at his body with his clubbing hooks. At first, this was looking to be effective and Haye looked a little wobbly at the end of the third round. But, at the start of the fifth round, the momentum switched again. Haye started landing some solid shots and they actually were affecting Chisora's usually "solid" chin. About two minutes into the round, Chisora went down from a quick barrage of punches. He managed to rise to his feet but he still looked a little wobbly, and there was still quite a bit of time left in the round. Haye came forward very strong once again and Chisora was sent crashing to the canvas for a second time. He still managed to climb back to his feet but this time the referee decided that he was not fit to continue.

That was it! David Haye had stopped Dereck Chisora and proved that he was back with a vengeance. 'The Hayemaker had done something that Robert Helenius and even Vitali Klitschko could not do.

The amount of screams and cheers that came from the crowd at this point were unreal! Nearly everyone in the crowd was there to support Haye and they had just witnessed exactly what they wanted to see. David Haye knocking Dereck Chisora out.

Both fighters were very respectful after the fight. Chisora was graceful in defeat, and Haye was graceful in his victory. Despite everything that has happened between the two fighters, they still hugged and shook hand after the fight. I actually think that even though he lost, this fight gained Chisora a lot of respect from quite a lot of fans.

The big question is now... What next for the two fighters?

Personally, I think that Haye will go back into retirement for a short period of time. If he doesn't get a fight with a Klitschko, and it's likely that he won't... Then there's not really anyone else out there for him. A rematch with Chisora would be good, but I think it would be much better in a few years time, when Chisora has had a bit more experience, which is the main thing he needs, and when Haye is maybe at the twilight of his career.

Despite losing three fights in a row, Chisora still has a lot of big fights ahead of him. First, he needs to take a few fights against European and domestic level fighters, just so that he can rack up a few victories and build up his confidence. People seem to overlook the fact that Chisora is actually a pretty decent fighter. He has only had 17 fights as an amateur and has only had 19 as a pro. He may have lost four, but they have all been against world class opponents, and the Helenius loss was a robbery in my opinion. He needs to fight some opponents of his level and class so he can show his full potential and then he will definitely be ready for world level. Haye said it himself... "Chisora is a definite future heavyweight world champion."

No matter what the critics say, this was a fantastic night for British boxing and boxing all around the world. It got people talking about the sport once again. It was great to see boxing back in the news and on the papers, and also to see casual boxing fans talking about boxing more than football, rugby or tennis. In my opinion, boxing has been brought back to life!

Haye-Chisora: Weigh-In Coverage

At 3:00pm today (July 12th), David Haye and Dereck Chisora went face-to-face for the final time before their highly anticipated grudge match at Upton Park on Saturday. The two men met at the Odeon in Leicester for the weigh-in for their heavyweight title fight.

There were never really any worries about the weight as you all know, there is no weight limit to the heavyweight division. The 1000+ fans that crammed in to watch the two top British heavyweights weigh in, were not there to check if they made the weight. They were there to see the two most controversial fighters in British boxing at this current time, go face-to-face and trash-talk each other for one last time.

Both men weighed around their expected weight but there was a little surprise when we found out that Chisora, who looked in good shape compared to usual, was 37lb heavier than Haye. 'Delboy' weighed in at 237lb and the 'Hayemaker' tipped the scales at just 210lb. Both men looked in shape, although Haye did look in slightly better condition.

The only thing left to do now for these guys is to have it out in the ring, solve their problems and settle the score once and for all. The trash-talking is finished, the bragging is finished, the stare-downs are finished... It's time for these two men to climb in to the ring and just FIGHT! They are Licensed To Thrill!

Dereck entertained the fans with an eventful public workout that showed off his extravagant personality. The former British heavyweight champ is fighting David Haye at Upton Park on July 14th in the most highly anticipated grudge match of the year, and this was his final public workout to promote the fight.

The controversial heavyweight looked sharp whilst shadow boxing and on the pads, and he even treated the fans to a little dance. One thing that I did notice, was that when 'Dellboy' was making his way down to the ring there were a few boo's, not many, but still a few. But, once he had finished and gave one last wave to the crowd, all you could hear were cheers.

David Haye was also there doing a public workout, but to be honest with you, it wasn't worth watching and certainly isn't worth writing about. He didn't interact with the fans and was there for a much shorter time than Chisora.

Povetkin Vs Rahman taken off the Chisora-Haye card!

The anticipated heavyweight title fight between Alexander Povetkin and Hasim Rahman has been removed from the show at Upton Park on July 14th, which is headlined by the highly anticipated grudge match between David Haye and Dereck Chisora. Instead the bout has been made the headline fight on a show in Hamburg, Germany on the same night.

Sauerland CEO Chris Meyer claims that the reason they made this decision is because of organisational concerns and potential problems with the TV time. Meyer explained that if the fight took place in London, there was no guarantee that it could be broadcast live in Germany.

This could be the true reason, but it is more much likely that they just didn't want all of the controversy and problems that are surrounding this fight. The fight has attracted a hell of a lot of interest from the fans, positive and negative, but there are some people who do not want this fight to happen. However, many of these people have given up trying now. They have just accepted that this fight is going to happen whether they like it or not.

It unclear now, as to what will be made chief-support on 'Licensed To Thrill' on July 14th. They could bring a big fight in at short notice, but the much more likely solution is that they will boost one of the undercard fights to chief-support and hype it up a lot more than it deserves.

Haye Vs Chisora: Referee and Judges announced!

The LBF (Luxembourg Boxing Federation) have confirmed the officials for the controversial heavyweight showdown between David Haye and Dereck Chisora at Upton Park on July 14th.

The three judges that have been selected are John Coyle (UK), Paul Thomas (UK), Luc Muller (Luxembourg).

The referee that has been chosen could cause a little more controversy, but not much. The LBF have selected Mickey Vann, who is now 68-years old. Vann was forced to retire as BBBofC referee as the age limit is 65. He is still allowed to judge and referee international shows that have nothing to do with the British Board but seeing as this fight is in the UK, the Board might get just a little annoyed.

Vann claims that even at his age, he will have no problem refereeing a bout that could be very eventful and at times maybe even dirty.

"I still referee and did a tough 12-rounder in Ukraine last month," told Vann.

Haye gives up on the Klitschko's...

British heavyweight David Haye has admitted that he has almost given up on the Klitschko's as he feels like they will never give him a fight. This means that his bout with Dereck Chisora on July 14th could be the last fight we will ever see the 'Hayemaker' in.

His main target was the older brother, Vitali, but the 40-year old Ukranian will be retiring very soon. He is having his last fight against Syrian Manuel Charr on September 8th. After this he is leaving the sport to continue with his career in politics.

Haye has also stated many times that he would be more than willing to have a rematch with the younger brother Wladimir. In their first fight, Haye was widely outpointed and looked helpless against the Ukranian giant. However, Wladimir feels that the Brit has nothing else to offer him as he has already added his WBA and IBF world titles to his collection.

"The Klitschko's manager Bernd Boente said to fight Chisora and the winner fights Vitali," said Haye. "Now it seems like he is fighting someone I've never heard of called Jimmy Carr, or something... There's a reason for him choosing this opponent because they know Vitali will knock him out, look good and get a nice win before going into politics."

"Wladimir has said he doesn't want to fight me again, which is fair enough, so I don't think a rematch is realistic. That fight would have only happened if I would have fought Vitali and won.

Haye also revealed that, although he is not looking past his fight with Chisora, if a fight with either of the Klitschko's doesn't happen in the next year or so, it will be just a one-fight comeback.

"I've not thought beyond this fight but if there's no Klitschko fight, it's going to be back for one fight only," explained Haye. "My last fight was a loss and if I had stayed retired it's not ideal to go out on a loss. But I can put that right against Chisora."

Dean Powell sides with Frank Warren!

The matchmaker Frank Warren Promotions, Dean Powell has dismissed the rumours that he will be involved with the highly anticipated, controversial heavyweight clash between David Haye and Dereck Chisora at Upton Park on July 14th. He is 100% sure that he will be working with Chisora and other fighters on the card come fight night.

"It is not true that I will not be working, the information is incorrect and I will be working at West Ham in my usual capacity," explained Powell. "I will be working in the corner alongside Don Charles [Chisora's trainer] and also as a cutsman and wrapping hands - I want to make that clear. My position is this - I will be standing alongside Frank Warren, Don Charles, Dereck Chisora and all the rest of Frank's fighters and staff. It is nonsense to say otherwise. I want this to be corrected. I'd like to know where people get this 'information' from because it simply isn't true."

The rumours were first heard on various boxing forums around the country. The forums in question stated that Powell had told a few of his fighters that he will not be working with them on the night of the fight. It is not quite clear as to who is responsible for the rumours.

Chisorah-Haye: Undercard fighters announced!

Three top British fighters have already been confirmed to fight on the undercard of the controversial bout between David Haye and Dereck Chisora on July 14th. These men are Frankie Gavin, Matthew Hall.

It was confirmed at the press conference that all three of these fighters will involved in a title bout at Upton Park next month. Gavin will be competing against an un-named opponent for the WBO European title. Hall is not contesting for such a big title but he is fighting a very talented, young German prospect named Jack Culcay. The title on the line is the WBA international light-middleweight title.

Probably the most known fighter on the undercard of the show is exciting undefeated Commonwealth champ Liam Smith. He takes on Frenchman Sebastian Cornu for the WBO European super-featherweight title.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for me to showcase my talent on the biggest show of the year, in front of a massive crowd, live on BoxNation, it’s just a dream for me and I can’t wait for it," said Walsh.


And, don't forget, there is also one other very big fight that poses as chief-support on July 14th. Alexander Povetkin Vs Hasim Rahman for the WBA world heavyweight title. There have been rumours that the winner of this match-up will go on to face the winner of Haye Vs Chisora later this year. 


Also announced at the press conference was the tie-up between BoxNation and venerated charity Nordoff Robins. BoxNation confirmed that it will be making charitable donations to the charity and there will also be a charitable collection at the show at Upton Park on July 14th.

Your nephew looked great in his last fight looked great in his last fight against Martin Rogan... How much input did you give to his new style?

100%. I did the nutrition, strength, conditioning my self. Changed many things, how to mentally prepare and work to a game plan, this in previous bouts had been missing? Defence, foot work and boxing with his natural advantages, being patient, and above all telling him if he listens and does exactly what we have prepared for, then all is good!
A big factor was not having any concerns of going the distance at any pace! He's in super shape, and only now concentrates on the Boxing aspect of the fight. 

How are things going in the Fury camp right now?

Things in the camp are fine, were all happy, working on a lot of small things to get right, and focussed! For me its easy he's my nephew, just like my son, he respects me as he knows what I say works for him, And I respect him also as he's a very nice person to be around. And above all he listens!!

How much are you enjoying being Tyson's head coach?

I enjoy the challenge of head coach, althoe I don't see it as that, as much as protecting him and giving him every advantage possible, I'm passionate in my work for excellence, were not their yet!

Is there anyone particular that you would like Tyson to fight next?

Tysons next opponent for me needs to be a good test as we want learning fights in preparation for the big fights out their, he's 18+0. And now needs to step up in class to the next level. Padding some ones record so it looks good to make the promoters money is not what were about, or Tyson s promoter Mick Hennessy, we all appreciate the need for quality other than quantity!

What did you change about the way Tyson used to be trained that made such a huge improvement in a short space of time?

The changes was dramatic, his diet, sparring, mental state, balance, footwork, defence, patience and professionalism and sheer bloody hard work in the gym 6 days 2 times a day total 4 hours per day. 

How long do you think it will be until Tyson will be ready for a Klitschko?

The younger klichko has learned and honed his skills very well, I'm a big fan of both of them for how they portray Boxing around the world. These are seasoned world champions and the best out their by far. I would say Tysons 4 to 5 fights away. Late next year Tyson will be ready for such a challenge, he could fight one of them now, but we are not interested in a challenge, but to win the world title!

There were recently rumours of a fight between Tyson and Alexander Povetkin but it now looks like this isn't going to happen... What happened?

Povetkins management are hard work full stop. Their Team are not interested in Tyson fury.

Are you currently training anyone else as well as Tyson? If so, who are they? And how much potential do you think they have?

I train my son who's just won the junior ABAs few weeks ago, he's also a national uk champion at 2 weight divisions and beat the best out their for his current position. He's. 6ft 6. And also H.W. 17yrs old, he's now Boxing for England team in Tri nations 14th june. He's aim is getting a medal in 2016 Olympics then pro. 
I have my other nephew phil fury, he's had 13 W 10. L3. 
This is 1st time he's been in my camp, I'm putting him out at welter, where as in all his previous bouts he's been light heavy and middle weight. 
I give advice to other fighters as well.

What are Team Fury's aims and objectives for the future?

Aims for future, take every fight as it comes, learn from it and move to next one. Perfect what I see as the perfect fighter and look forward to being part of it. 

And finally, a question from one of our fans.. What do you think of Haye Vs Chisora and who do you think will win?

Chisora V Haye? Haye's a world class operator clever Boxer with explosive power! People speak of the klichko fight and see him as the toe excuse. I'm no fan of the way haye behaved in the biuld up. But he thought it would get under their skin, instead it backfired all round. 
Hayes a good fighter, chisora, good, pressure fighter, but no real power? I pick Mr Haye. 

Haye-Chisora is still on! Luxembourg chose to sanction fight...

The highly anticipated showdown between David Haye and Dereck Chisora at Upton Park on July 14th is still on. The Luxembourg Boxing Federation have decided to sanction the fight despite threats of expulsion from the European Boxing Union.

There was a meeting held by the LBF with 12 members attending. According to reports, 8 out of the 12 members voted in favour of sanctioning the controversial bout so the federation will still be sanctioning the fight.

Apparently there were a few other sanctioning bodies that were willing to sanction the fight if Luxembourg decided not to. The boxing world has been completely split down the middle because of this fight. There are many people that believe that this fight is a complete and utter travesty that should never take place but then there are many others who do not mind this fight happening at all. One thing that we can say is that no matter how many people do not want this fight to happen, there is hardly any boxing fans that will not be watching the fight on July 14th.

Promoter Frank Warren commented on the situation and confirmed that the LBF are 100% behind the fight: "The LBF is backing the show along with the World Boxing Organisation and the World Boxing Association, whose International and Intercontinental titles will be on the line."

Shane Cameron lands training camp with David Haye

According to reports, New Zealander cruiserweight Shane Cameron has been chosen as David Haye's sparring partner in preparation for his highly anticipated bout with Dereck Chisora on July 14th. It will be a three week training camp and Cameron will be returning just over a week before his fight with Monte Barrett on July 5th.

'The Hayemaker' will be funding return flights to London for Cameron and his team and will also cover other accommodation costs as well as paying the Kiwi brawler a sparring fee.

"They were looking for a sparring partner. They knew that Shane was a tough guy," explained Cameron's manager Ken Reinsfield. "It's win-win for the Haye camp and us. Our whole team is travelling together."

Cameron and his team claim that they are not going to train with Haye for the money. They believe that there is not a better person to spar with that will prepare Cameron for his next opponent Monte Barrett. Back in 2008, Haye scored a TKO victory over Barrett in the fifth round. So as well as the sparring, Haye will also be able to offer expert tips and insights on how to beat the 41-year old American journeyman.

"We're not going up there for the money. We are going for ideal preparation," said Reinsfield.

"It's spectacular sparring. You are talking about a former WBA world champion and contender who is trying to eye up Vitali Klitschko for a title shot... Haye said he would help with any advice on fighting Barrett so that's great.
