Stevens makes the statement he needed to!

By Jack Price @PriceyJ97 - @BoxingOpinions1

Roman felt the power that Stevens possesses.
Do you want to see Curtis 'Showtime' Stevens face the seemingly unbeatable and formidable Gennady Golovkin in November? If you ask most fight fans this question now, their answer will be yes. Before last night it would have probably been 'maybe' or 'no' with a few hardcore 'Showtime' fans saying yes.

But things changed last night when the short and stocky power-puncher scored a devastating 1st round KO victory over a tough opponent in Saul Roman. Stevens, knowing that he had to look impressive if he wanted this fight with Golovkin, came out meaning business throwing hayemakers from the off. Roman, who was very game, stood up to the first few but eventually a left-hook caught him straight on the chin and sent him to the canvas. The Mexican rose to his feet but only to be sent down and kept down by another devastating left-hook.

The Fans Have Voted: Macklin Vs Golovkin

87% picking Golovkin to win. Enters as huge favorite!

On Saturday night (June 29th) WBA and IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin defends his title for the third time already this year against highly-rated British/Irish 160lber Matthew Macklin. The fight takes place at the MGM Grand at the Foxwords resort in Connecticut.

Matthew Macklin Vs Gennady Golovkin - Fight Preview

By Jack Sumner @Jack_Sumner_

Having steadily climbed his way through the world middleweight ranks following early career setbacks on the domestic scene, British-based Irish contender Matthew Macklin would attest that in this sport, you make your own luck. Hard work and a subsequent run of victories led to a first world title shot against Felix Sturm, though it was bad luck that arguably cost him victory and a maiden world crown.

The Fans Have Voted: Matthysse & Golovkin the two most feared fighters in the world?

By Jack Price @PriceyJ97.

In one of our most recent debates on Twitter (@BoxingOpinions1) we asked the fans who they believe are the most "feared" boxers in the world today. This is actually a very tough question to answer in this era... There isn't really anyone with that ferociousness and viciousness inside them to cause the amount of fear that previous fighters have. Think back to the days when Tyson was in his prime, the fear he used to strike into his opponents. He won most fights before he even stepped into the ring. There are only really two guys that I think even come close to that nowadays, and they're the two fighters that most of you picked too.

There were the obvious mentions of the pound-for-pound dominators such as Floyd Mayweather, The Klitschko's and Andre Ward but these guys aren't necessarily feared because people are jumping at the opportunity to fight them. It may be a daunting task when you're actually in the ring with them but people aren't scared to take on these guys.

It's no secret that there are avoided fighters in the boxing world and two of the most well-known avoided men around right now are Lucas Matthysse and Gennady Golovkin. Between them they received 65% of the votes, a massive 40% for Matthysse. So let's go through the reasons why barely anyone wants to take the risk of fighting either of these two men:

Gennady Golovkin - Another one bites the dust!

By Jack Price @PriceyJ97.

It was another successful defence of his WBA middleweight world title for Gennady Golovkin last night. Once again the highly-rated contender didn't even really have to step it up a gear before stopping his opponent. The extremely-game Gabriel Rosado gave it his all but just couldn't handle the bombs that were being thrown at him by a guy who was clearly just levels above.

Rosado had a decent start, losing the rounds but staying away from Golovkin's devastating power shots. However, it was just a matter of time before 'GGG' started to connect with the shots and break his over-matched opponent down. After being battered by Golovkin things went from bad to worse for Rosado as a nasty cut opened up above his left eye. More punishment followed before the fight was finally stopped at the end of the 7th round.

There's not much else I can say about the fight to be honest... It was just another routine defence for the currently unstoppable looking Gennady Golovkin. A step up is definitely needed for the Kazakhstani man now. He has been blasting out "B level" fighters for months now, and has barely lost a round in his career but there are signs of him becoming a little lazy. If this continues he could find himself picking up bad habits that could come back to haunt him in the future.

Daniel Geale targets America!

Daniel Geale arrives back in Sydney after fight with Felix Sturm.

Unified middleweight world champion Daniel Geale has revealed that his next target is to fight in America and really announce himself to the worldwide community of boxing fans.
The Aussie is already a relatively well-known and popular fighter but he is probably not even heard of by most casual boxing fans. So a big fight in America would be a perfect way to boost his popularity.

Geale is just coming off of a fantastic victory over former world champion Felix Sturm but the 'Real Deal' claims that he wants to carry on fighting tough opponents in big fights. To start this process, he would like to take on the winner of the middleweight super-showdown between Sergio Martinez and Julio Cesat Chavez Jr, two of the best fighters in the world.

"I think if you go over and conquer the US as well that's the next target," said Geale.

"With the help of my promoter Gary Shaw, we're going to get over there and shake those guys up too... Its been great to do it in Germany, but I think now we've got to do it in other countries as well. I'd love to be able to bring some huge name fighters out to Australia as well. I'd love to be able to put on a massive home town fight in Sydney."

"We've got to keep taking the next step and that is obviously going to mean more money, but it definitely means harder and bigger fights."

Geale does also have a mandatory defence for each title he owns. One against fellow Australian Sam Soliman and the other with quickly rising superstar Gennady Golovkin.

Golovkin stops Proksa!

Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin has once again proved that he is the man to watch in the middleweight division right now. This time he has done it by knocking out Grzegorz Proksa in just five rounds.

At first, it looked as though it was going to be a tough night for the 30-year old. Proksa went down once in the first round but managed to rise back to his feet and cause Golovkin some problems. The British-based Pole was proving a tough target to hit until the fourth round, as that was when Golovkin decided to step up his work and unleash some of his concussive power. Proksa found himself on canvas once again in the 4th round, but once again he showed true grit and determination to rise back up to his feet. But unfortunately, it was clear that the quick-thinking Golovkin had already figured him out. Proksa did well to survive the round but that was just about it. In the 5th, Golovkin's punches were just even faster and harder and this time when Proksa went down he didn't get back up in time.

You have to feel for Proksa at the moment though. He was at the top of his game after just seven weeks of training and if he was in the ring with any other fighter it could have been different. It was just that even his best wasn't good enough to beat Golovkin. I think it's now time for Proksa to go back to his drawing board, sort out his defence and then starting aiming for another world title fight.
Golovkin on the other hand must now be on the verge of a fight with one of the top men in the division. He has proved time and time again that he deserves to be up there with the best and I think its only fair that he gets the opportunity.

Proksa drops EBU title, Murray Vs Marie looking likely...

Proksa with the EBU title.

British-based middleweight prospect Grzegorz Proksa has done what was expected and relinquished the EBU middleweight title. As I said, this doesn't come as a shock as Proksa is fully occupied with his highly anticipated bout with Gennady Golovkin, which is potentially the biggest fight of his career.

It is now looking very likely that the EBU title will be put on the line for the fight between Martin Murray and Julien Sainte Marie (if it happens). The EBU have set a deadline of September 26th for negotiations such as purse bids and agreement to be finalised.

Proksa will be in the ring this Saturday night in New York where he will challenge the highly regarded Gennady Golovkin for the IBO & WBA "regular" titles.

Proksa ready for Golovkin!

For a few days now, there have been rumours circulating that EBU middleweight king Grzegorz Proksa will face highly rated and feared WBA "regular" champ Gennady Golovkin on September 1st and now, according to both camps, a deal has been finalized and the fight is almost definite.

Gennady Golovkin.
Proksa fought just two weeks ago on July 7th when he got revenge on former European champ Kerry Hope and knocked the Welshman out in nine rounds. The Surrey-based Pole realises that Golovkin is a dangerous fighter with a lot of power but he believes it is time for him to step up in class and face the best.

"[Golovkin] is on the crest of the global elite. His accomplishments in amateur boxing speak for themselves, he became a world champ and won a silver medal. This is a very smart fighter. He doesn't throw a lot of punches, but when he does he hits hard and he's accurate. Not surprisingly, others avoid fighting him... almost all of the top rated boxers of our division," said Proksa.

The 27-year old is also not worried about having a shorter training camp than usual.

"I will not have a proper training [camp], but why should I wait?.. Under favourable circumstances for such a fight, I would prepare for 3-4 months, but I believe in myself. I want to know how I will look against the best and if my name will go down in history."

Personally, I think it is great that Proksa is taking this fight. Most boxers of his experience and talent do not take on fighters as dangerous as Golovkin, but Proksa has taken a risk and if it pays off it will give his career a huge boost. It will also be the toughest fight of Golovkin's career. The 30-year old has looked unstoppable in his career so far, but he hasn't really fought anyone of much note. He will be a huge favourite going into the fight but he will have to be in top condition if he wants to look good against Proksa. No matter what happens, this is a great fight!

Hearn looking to make Abril Vs Rees & Golovkin Vs Proksa!

Matchroom's forever-improving promoter Eddie Hearn.
Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed that if things go well, we could get to see two really interesting fights later this year... The first being Gavin Rees Vs Richard Abril for the vacant WBA lightweight title.

Personally, I think this an amazing fight and if it does happen, a lot of people will be watching. Rees has been calling for a world title shot for a very long time and many people believe he deserves after his knock-out victory over domestic rival Derry Matthews on July 7th. Abril, technically is not coming off of a victory but almost everyone believes he should be.The Cuban world title contender put on a career-best performance against Brandon Rios on March 17th only to be clearly robbed. However, now he has a chance to get revenge and win the world title that he believes should rightfully be his.

"Abril is someone that we are talking to and we are looking to make that happen, but nothing will be announced this week," told Hearn.

The next brilliant fight that we could get to see is Grzrgorz Proksa Vs Gennady Golovkin. Personally, I don't think this fight is as good as Rees Vs Abril but it is still a very good fight. Proksa is coming off of a great performance in which he won back his European middleweight title. And I probably don't even need to stress to you how much of a good fighter Golovkin is. He is regarded by many as the most underrated fighter in the world and is no doubt a future world champion. Looking at it this early on, it seems like it will be a fairly one-sided fight in Golovkin's favour but if Proksa wants to prove that he is one of the best in the world he is going to have to take fights like this.

"Proksa was due to be fighting Barker on September 8th, but we're now in deep negotiations with Golovkin's camp to take that fight next month after we were approached by them," Hearn confirmed.

Pirog Vs Golovkin made official!

According to promoter Art Pellulo, the rumoured fight between Dmirty Pirog and Gennady Golovkin has been made official for August 25th.

Pirog (20-0, 15 KO's) will be returning to America for the first time since his stoppage win over Danny Jacobs in July of 2010. It will be Golovkin's (23-0, 20 KO's) debut in America and his first fight on HBO. Apparently, Pirog will be forfeiting his WBO middleweight title and just Golovkin's WBA 'regular' title will be on the line.

For both men, it will be their toughest fight to date and a chance to prove that they are as good as they have been made out to be. Both of them have looked fantastic in their careers so far but they haven't really faced anybody of any note.

The likely co-feature on the show is a light-middleweight fight between ring veteran Sergiy Dzinziruk (37-1, 23 KO's) and Puerto Rican prospect Jonathan Gonzalez (15-0, 13 KO's). It is a big step up for Gonzalez although Dzinziruk hasn't fought since he lost to Sergio Martinez in March of last year.

It is the most exciting chief support that you will ever see but it is a relatively interesting fight. And the main event is one of the best we are going to see all year. Two young prospects that could potentially go onto very big things will meet in the ring at the peak of their careers.

Team Golovkin ready to pursue fight with Sturm...

Golovkin and his new team at K2.
Gennady Golovkin and his team claim that they have been trying to force WBA middleweight champion Felix Sturm into a fight for the last two years and now they're are going to push even harder to get the fight after Golovkin just put on yet another dominant performance against Makoto Fuchigami who he stopped in just three rounds. Golovkin and his new promoters K2 are working to get the WBA to finally push Sturm into a mandatory defence.

"At this point, Sturm is running out of options. Sturm, at this time, holds the record for being a champion the longest without having a mandatory defence. Two years ago, Gennady was the interim champion and Sturm was the WBA champion. Sturm then got elevated to super champion. For the last two years, Gennady has been trying to fight him," said Tom Loeffler of K2.

WBA middleweight champ Felix Sturm.
Golovkin (23-0, 23 KO's) has recently taken the middleweight division by storm and many people believe that he is already good enough to challenge pound-for-pound contender Sergio Martinez. But, he doesn't want to rush in too fast so a fight with the likes of Sturm or another world champ is a lot more sensible at this moment in time.

The big question is, whether Sturm would be willing to take such a dangerous fight. A few of his recent fights with the likes of Matthew Macklin and Martin Murray have seen him come very close to losing his title and Golovkin is a level above them already. At the age of 33 he is still in great condition and stronger than ever after his dominant performance against Sebastian Zbik, but in 23 fights Golovkin has not lost a round and has never looked in trouble.

This is a potential fight of the year and if it does happen I guarantee that every boxing fan will want to see it. My prediction for the fight is that it would be very close but Golovkin would have too much power and skill for the older opponent and end up winning by a late KO.

Golovkin too good yet again...

Future pound-for-pound contender Gennady Golovkin.
WBA and IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin is climbing up the middleweight rankings very fast and many people are now even asking for a fight between him and current super-middleweight king Sergio Martinez. Tonight, once again, the 30-year old beat yet another opponent with ease. It took him less than three rounds to finish off Makoto Fuchigami. The referee stopped the fight in the third round as it was clear that the Japanese champion had nothing left.

This was Golovkin's fourth defence of his titles and his 23rd win in a row. He has also proved once again that he does not only have superior boxing skills but also devastating punch power as this was his 20th KO in just 23 fights (one of the highest KO percentages in the world today).

For a long time now, there has been no middleweight around that would even be considered to be on the same level as pound-for-pound contender Sergio Martinez but the Kazakh prospect is causing a very big stir in the division already. There is no doubt that he is just as good, if not better than the likes of Felix Sturm, Matthew Macklin and Martin Murray but he needs to fight one of these top contenders just to get rid of any doubts in everyone's minds.

All we can do for now is wonder and hope that one day Golovkin and Martinez end up in the same ring preparing for war, but it has to happen soon as Martinez is already 37 and Golovkin is not the youngest of fighters either. Let's try and get this fight to happen whilst both fighters are still in their prime.

Gennady Golovkin... The most avoided fighter in the world?

Gennady Golovkin.
Not many people have heard of the WBA (Regular) and IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin and there is a reason for this.

Golovkin has been classed by many experts as one of the most avoided boxers in the world. The tricky Russian who was born in Kazakhstan had a fantastic record as an amateur. He has won many world championships including; Junior World Championships, Senior World Championships and a sliver medal at the 2004 Olympic games.

Not only did he reach tremendous success as an amateur, he also beat some of the best boxers that are now making their mark in the pro game. In 2003 he beat Irish middleweight Andy Lee who is boxing for the WBC middleweight title later this year. And, even more impressively he knocked IBF world super-middleweight champion Lucian Bute in just 4 rounds at the 2003 world championships. Bute is now considered to be one of the best fighters in the world so this just shows how good Golovkin really is.

In the semi-final of the Olympic games in 2004 he beat super-middleweight legend Andre Dirrell 23-18. He then went on to lose in the final against a very experienced amateur boxer in Gaydarbek Gaydarbekov.

As a pro he has a perfect record of 22 wins, 0 losses, 0 draws with 19 KO's. The prospect from Stuttgart has barely lost a round in his 22 fights and has never looked in trouble. He won the WBA vacant interim middleweight title on August 14th 2010 where he scored a first round knockout against Milton Nunez.

It is only recently that he has started to gain a little more of the recognition that he deserves. The main reason for this is that a few of his recent fights have been televised on the 'home of boxing' BoxNation.

We are on a mission to improve his popularity and start to gain him more fans which could lead to him landing a serious world title fight.

Spread the word of this fantastic fighter who has the talent that could take the middleweight division by storm.
