There were a lot of impressive performances from the fighters in action but it was only man that caused a massive stir in the boxing world has got the fans talking. That man is Jhonny Gonzalez, who last night scored a devastating 1st round knockout loss over the heavily favored Abner Mares.

The Fans Have Voted: Khan Vs Diaz

90% picking Khan to have successful UK comeback!

This weekend (Saturday April 27th) Amir 'King' Khan (27-3, 19 KO's) returns to the UK, taking on experienced Mexican Julio Diaz (40-, 29 KO's) at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield. The actual fight itself isn't that exciting but the fact that Khan is returning to the UK for the first time in over 2 years and that he is still on the comeback trail from his devastating knockout loss to Danny Garcia, has got the fans talking about and anticipating this fight.

Gennady Golovkin - Another one bites the dust!

It was another successful defence of his WBA middleweight world title for Gennady Golovkin last night. Once again the highly-rated contender didn't even really have to step it up a gear before stopping his opponent. The extremely-game Gabriel Rosado gave it his all but just couldn't handle the bombs that were being thrown at him by a guy who was clearly just levels above. 

 Rosado had a decent start, losing the rounds but staying away from Golovkin's devastating power shots. However, it was just a matter of time before 'GGG' started to connect with the shots and break his over-matched opponent down. After being battered by Golovkin things went from bad to worse for Rosado as a nasty cut opened up above his left eye. More punishment followed before the fight was finally stopped at the end of the 7th round. 

 There's not much else I can say about the fight to be honest... It was just another routine defence for the currently unstoppable looking Gennady Golovkin. A step up is definitely needed for the Kazakhstani man now. He has been blasting out "B level" fighters for months now, and has barely lost a round in his career but there are signs of him becoming a little lazy. If this continues he could find himself picking up bad habits that could come back to haunt him in the future. 

Groves shakes off ring rust!

British and Commonwealth super-middleweight champion George Groves returned to the ring last night (July 28th) after just over 8 months out of the ring and just one and a half rounds of action in just 14 months. The 24-year old shook off his ring rust and defeated Francisco Sierra by 6th round KO.

It was a decent performance from Groves but Sierra, who I think was underestimated by a lot of people made it very tough for the Brit. Many people expected it to be an easy comeback fight for Groves but Sierra had different ideas. He took every shot that Groves threw at him and at one point it just looked as though he was never going to be hurt. He even had Groves hurt with a body-shot at one point. It took Groves a few rounds to shake off the rust and then as Sierra started to tire, he took advantage and finished in fantastic style. He landed a left-hook, right hand combo that sent Sierra crashing from the canvas. It was clear at this point that Groves, who is known as a devastating finisher, was going to end this fight right then and there. Sierra got up and came powering forward yet again but Groves landing a solid right hand that was followed by a barrage of punches and Sierra's corner were forced to throw in the towel.

The only negative thing to say about Groves at the moment is that sometimes he gets dragged into a brawl and lets his heart rule his head. This is okay if you're a Carl Froch or Juan Manuel Marquez type of fighter but I don't think Groves is cut out to fight in that type of way. Especially as he is only 24-years old and if he continues to fight on in that type of way, it could potentially affect him in the future.

Simpson KO's Appleby!

New Celtic champion John Simpson.

Last night (June 29th), the highly anticipated rematch between John Simpson and Paul Appleby took place. The first fight was very close, with non-stop action and everyone was expecting this to be the same. The title on the line was the Celtic lightweight title and the entirely Scottish crowd, at the Kelvin Hall, were hostile.

We were all expecting an all-out war and the two fighters did not disappoint. There was more action in six rounds than there is in most 12-rounders. The fight was scheduled for 10, but it was clear from the beginning that there was no chance of it going the distance.

Simpson started very well and it looked like it was going to be an early night for him. But, Appleby being his usual self, did not give up and he managed to squeeze his way back into the fight. From the third round onwards, the two men just stood toe-to-toe and slugged away at each other. It reminded me of a slightly scrappier version of the Pacquiao-Marquez fights.

When it got to the 6th round, it looked as though both fighters had hardly anything left in the tank, but they continued to fight on. The knockdown actually came as a shock as Appleby was actually coming on strong. Simpson landed a sold shot that stiffened Appleby's legs. He took a knee and managed to rise back up to his feet. But what came next, was shocking to watch for anyone. Simpson landed a solid back hand and sent Appleby crashing to the canvas. But it wasn't the usual knock out that you see everyday. It looked as though he was falling in slow motion.

The question that everybody is asking now is... What does Appleby have left?

The guy has been in so many wars it's unrel. I don't think I've ever seen him in a boring fight. Whilst this is very exciting for the fans, it will take his toll on him very soon. Too many wars and he could be left punch-drunk or seriously hurt in the future. I think he needs to take a long and peaceful rest and decide if he wants to continue fighting. I'm sure he will!
