WBC silver welterweight champion Josesito Lopez will be moving up in weight for the second time in two fights for his fight with Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez on September 15th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. To ensure that he puts on the weight in the correct way, he is sticking to a very strict diet.

As he is physically the smaller man, he has to gain a lot of weight whilst keeping his speed, accuracy, strength and fitness. Now obviously, putting the weight on whilst training hard everyday is a tough task, but Lopez believes that he is going about it the right way.

"I've had a camp of nearly nine weeks. A segment of its first portion consisted of a high protein diet, eating six times a day, every three hours, to maintain my weight, strength and speed," explained Lopez.

"Its a bit difficult to keep the weight whilst your training twice a day, six days a week, but I've retained it while remaining fast strong and healthy. I ate chicken every day, fish, roasted meat... And of course rice and beans."

Over the last few months, Golden Boy have been desperately trying to find an opponent for their young star Saul Alvarez for September 15t. So far, they have managed to find three men that would have all made a great fight for the fans and Alvarez himself, but unfortunately, all three of these have fell through.

'Canelo' was originally set to face young up and coming light-middleweight James Kirkland but Kirkland pulled out due to injury. Then an even better opponent was brought in. The former pound-for-pound contender Paul Williams. But unfortunately, Williams was in a tragic motorcycle accident that could potentially leave him paralysed from the waist down. So, at this point everyone was thinking that we would just have to see Alvarez fight a "nobody" on September 15th. However, two weeks ago, things got even better for fight fans. It was announced that Saul Alvarez would be fighting welterweight superstar Victor Ortiz. This was set to be the toughest test of the 21-year old's career and all Ortiz had to do was get a win against a half decent fighter named Josesito Lopez on June 23rd. But once again, another problem occurred. Ortiz lost the fight and had his jaw broken, meaning that there was no chance of him fighting Alvarez on September 15th.


Many people believe that all of this is happening because the "boxing gods" want to see 'Canelo' face Cuban light-middleweight prospect Erislandy Lara. However, it still seems as though this fight is not going to happen.


The main opponent that is being discussed right now is WBA 'regular' light-middleweight champ Austin Trout (25-0, 14 KO's). If it does happen, the bout will be televised live on Showtime and go head-to-head with the highly anticipated grudge match between Julio Cesar Chavez Jr and Sergio Martinez. If this does happen, then I'm sure that the majority of the fans will be watching Chavez Vs Martinez on HBO which means Golden Boy and Alvarez will potentially lose a lot of money. 


To be honest with you, this is a decent fight, but I don't think it will interest as many people as Alvarez Vs Kirkland, Williams or Ortiz would have done. Trout is a good fighter but just doesn't have the popularity to make this a headline fight on a PPV. Golden Boy would have to do a hell of a lot of hyping up to get people excited about this. The only thing that could get people a little more interested is that Trout has a win over Canelo's brother Rigoberto. This is something that Golden Boy will no doubt mention on plenty of occasions.

Maidana calls out Saul Alvarez!

Now that Victor Ortiz has suffered an upset loss to Josesito Lopez, Saul Alvarez needs yet another opponent for September 15th, and Argentinian former world champ Marcos Maidana is more than willing to step up and take the challenge.

He was actually at the Staples Centre on Saturday night when Lopez defeated Ortiz. He revealed that it brought back memories from when he defeated Ortiz in a similar fashion. But, he doesn't want to live on the past, he wants to look to the future.

"It was a great card. Great wins from Lucas Mattyhsse and Josesito Lopez. Now it's my turn and I want it to be against [Saul] Canelo Alvarez. That's the opponent I want," told Maidana.

If the fight was arranged, there would be just one small problem. Maidana would have to move up two weight divisions and fight a guy that is a very big light-middleweight. 'El Chino' has fought most of his career at light-welterweight (and sometimes even lighter) so it would be tough for him to put on the weight and still stay in shape.

"All I say is they are looking for a fight for Canelo and I want Canelo. I told that to Oscar De La Hoya in person last night. I know some might say that he's too big for me and I say I like the challenge because Canelo likes to fight and so do I. Styles make fights and it would be a war. A war that I can win."

The 28-year old is coming off of a points loss to American welterweight Devon Alexander and he feels that he needs to prove to himself and the world that he's still got what it takes to compete at the top level.

"I feel like I need vindication from the loss against Devon Alexander. And vindication can only be achieved by getting great victories against great opponents. Regardless of the weight, I know I can knock Canelo out. I like the toughest challenges," explained Maidana.

In all honesty, I can't see this fight happening. Maidana would just be too small and I don't think that Alvarez would feel that he had proved anything from getting a victory against Maidana. The Argentinian is a very good fighter but would just not be strong enough or powerful enough at light-middleweight. I'm not sure that Golden Boy would want this fight to happen either. They are also looking to prove that their young star is one of the best in the world, and you won't do that with this fight.

Lopez stops Ortiz... Breaks him down!

It has happened once again. Victor Ortiz has cost himself another loss in a fight that should have been an easy win. In case you haven't heard... 'Vicious' Victor Ortiz quit on his stool in his fight last night (June 23rd) with Josesito Lopez, complaining of a broken jaw.

Right from the off, it was a closer and more exciting fight than many people expected it to be. A lot of boxing fans, including myself thought it would be an easy fight for Ortiz and just sort of a 'ticking-over' bout in preparation for his scheduled superfight with WBC light-middleweight champ Saul Alvarez.

Lopez won the first round and although he was moving up in weight, he looked slightly stronger than Ortiz. But then the momentum switched. Ortiz dominated the next few rounds and in the fifth Lopez went down from an illegal blow to the back of the head and took a very long time to recover. It looked as though the 29-year old was finished. He came back strong for the last minute of the round but none of his punches seemed to be hurting Ortiz. The next round had less action but Ortiz still clearly won the round. But then things changed again. Lopez got himself back into the fight and started to push Ortiz back. It started to look like the Ortiz who gave up against Maidana back in 2009. And then, once again, Victor Ortiz proved his doubters right. He pulled out at the end of the 9th round, complaining of a broken jaw.

To be honest with you, I'm not convinced that this is true. It might have been broken but until it's proved, I'm not going to believe it. He didn't look in any pain at all in the 9th round. He looked as if he was ready to give up but he did not show any signs of serious pain. I think that his will was broken yet again.

I do actually like Ortiz, but I do think that this is the end of his career as a top level fighter. He's shown us on numerous occasions that he just doesn't have the mental strength that you need at the highest level of the sport. Because of this fight, he's not only lost value but he's also tarnished his reputation and lost a lot of popularity with the fans.

Let's look at the positive side of this fight. A new star has emerged. And his name is Josesito Lopez! The guy has beaten one of the top stars in the sport and looked fantastic whilst doing it. He managed to come back from almost being knocked out and stop a much higher level of opponent late on in the fight. The 29-year old has an exciting fighting style that a lot of people will want to see again, so you can expect to see him in action a lot more times in the future.

Another person that has been affected by this is Saul Alvarez. I think it's safe to say that Ortiz Vs Alvarez will not be taking place on September 15th. Ortiz is now the third failed opponent in a row for Alvarez so it now looks as though he will be facing Erislandy Lara in September.

Randall Bailey calls out Floyd Mayweather!

The current IBF welterweight world champion Randall Bailey, who is now 37-years old, is making the most of his time at the top. And he is starting by calling out the pound-for-pound king Floyd 'Money' Mayweather.

Bailey primarily called out Mayweather but he also claimed that he would fight any deserving world title contender at 147lb (welterweight). But, only if the price is right.

"I've been avoided forever," Bailey said, "but now I'm coming off a world title fight win that ended with a punch people are going to be talking about for a long time. If I had a choice, I'd fight Mayweather next. I like the way Floyd's fighting. He's not running around so much to try to win on points. He's giving guys an opportunity to hit him and that's my type of fight."


"I told him (Jones) that I was going to knock him out. In my mind, that was the only way I'd win the fight. I watched a few of his fights that were close, like the (Jesus Soto) Karrass fight, and I was concerned about winning a decision. I knew when I grazed him in the first round that he'd take off like a thief in the night. The kid ran from me a lot and I caught a lot of his punches with my gloves. I waited for him to sit down for a second. I didn't have that much on my punch (straight right) in the 10th round (Jones was decked for the first time as an amateur or pro) because my leg was twisted. In the 11th, he was laying in under his jab so I couldn't hit him with my overhand right. I decided to back up and as we got closer, he kept his chin down to keep away from my overhand right. It was just natural for me to come with my uppercut like I did. That was my best punch ever. It had so much on it that it looked like my fist was in his face. I hit his nose and it felt like meat coming out."


"That punch was similar to the punches he knocked out (Jackson Osei) Bonsu and (Frankie) Figueroa with," Bailey's manager Si Stern noted, "but this was the best punch I've ever seen Randall land. I'm so proud of Randall. He's at the top of his game and a three-time world champion. His one punch produced the 'Knockout of the Year', if not the 'Knockout of the Decade'. We have the world title belt and won't fight on the cheap. We already have a half-million dollar offer to fight overseas, so why would we take a cheap fight? Once Mayweather gets out of jail, he won't find a better opponent to fight than Randall Bailey, who is one of the most dangerous fighters in the world. Mayweather-Bailey has the potential to be a classic fight."


"We'll listen to any offers - Malignaggi, Alexander, Berto, Ortiz, even Pacquiao or Bradley - if the price is right. Randall has been avoided like the plague; they've been scared to death because of his one-punch power. We'll only have one or two opportunities for a big fight before his mandatory is due. It would be crazy for him to fight now for short money."


It's unlikely that Bailey will even enter negotiations with Mayweather, but if it does get that far, I'm sure that Mayweather would offer the 37-year old way more less than what Bailey would ask for. To be totally honest with you, I don't think that any of the top fighters at the weight would give Bailey the chance that he actually does deserve. He's just not popular enough to participate in a PPV fight and he isn't on the same level as the likes of Pacquiao, Mayweather, Bradley, Ortiz or Berto.


The most likely big pay-days for him would be with either Paulie Malignaggi or Devon Alexander. In my opinion, both of these guys still need to prove themselves and a victory against one of the hardest punchers in the sport would be very good for their careers and reputation.

Sergio Martinez threatens 'Canelo'!

Pound-for-pound contender Sergio Martinez is set to face Julio Cesar Chavez Jr for the WBC middleweight title of the world on September 15th. This is a very good fight that has been made and usually it would attract a hell of a lot of views. However, there is another top class pay-per-view fight on exactly the same day. 'Canelo' (Saul Alvarez) Vs Victor Ortiz.

Martinez (49-2-2, 28 KO's) was quick to realise this and issued a direct warning to Alvarez as he does not want anything ruining his first fight on a PPV.

"I am very happy for my first chance [headlining a PPV]. The competition, sometime it's good but if [Canelo] continues in that position.. After I finish with Chavez, I will go down to 154 and do the same thing to Canelo, and get back the other belt that belongs to me to," said Martinez.

The Martinez-Chavez fight is promoted by Top Rank and Lou DiBella and will be shown live on HBO, whereas the Alvarez-Ortiz fight is promoted solely by Golden Boy and will be shown live on Showtime. This is the first time in around five years that two big fights promoted by these will go head-to-head on exactly the same day. The last time was in June 2006, when Bernard Hopkins moved up to light-heavy to face Antonio Tarver (promoted by Golden Boy). On the same day was Miguel Cotto Vs Paulie Malignaggi (promoted by Top Rank.

Martinez also had a little bit to say about his opponent, Chavez Jr: "After I finish with Chavez, he will never make it to 168. He will retire very young."

I'm sure that one of the promotional companies will see sense and move their fight back or forward a week or two. These are two big fights that everyone wants to see, so the fact that we can only see one is pretty annoying for most fans. According to reports, Top Rank had the September 15th date pencilled in first so at the moment it looks it may be Golden Boy that have to change their date.

Maidana Vs Thurman added to HBO event on July 21st...

On July 21st 2012, young superstar Adrien Broner takes on Vincente Escobedo in the main event of the HBO Boxing After Dark show in Cincinnati. And now, another fight has been added to the show. Argentinian welterweight Marcos Maidana takes on up and coming prospect Keith Thurman.

This isn't a great fight, as many people have already portrayed it to be, but it is a decent fight. I've heard some people moaning about it and saying it's not even worth watching but I don't think it's that bad.

It's actually good to see an undefeated prospect taking on a tough fighter for once. Thurman (17-0, 16 KO's) has not faced anyone of any note yet but now, unlike many other young prospects in the world right now, he is taking on a fighter who will actually provide him with a tough test. Maidana (31-3, 28 KO's) is definitely past his best but he is still a tough fighter to beat. He has showed the ring with many great boxers that are around today, including a close loss to Amir Khan and wins over Victor Ortiz and Erik Morales. At one point, he looked as though could have gone on to be one of the best in the world. However, recently he has been on a slight decline.

The former world title challenger lost a wide points decision to Devon Alexander back in February which lead many people to think that his run as a top level fighter was over.

This will be a relatively close fight and if Thurman manages to get the victory it could give his career a huge boost and help him a hell of a lot in the future.

Ortiz forgetting Berto... Only interested in Lopez, Alvarez and Mayweather

If former world title holder Victor Ortiz fulfils to the best of his potential, he could have a very good year ahead of him. The 25-year old could potentially have three top class fights before the year ends.

First, on the 23rd June, he will face Josesito Lopez in a non-title bout. Lopez was brought in as a late replacement for Andre Berto, who Ortiz now claims is no longer in his list of potential opponents, as the former world champ failed a drug test. This is not the most valuable fight Ortiz has ever had and it is definitely not the best fight he is going to have this year.

Things got even better for 'Vicious' recently. His promotional company, Golden Boy, have recently announced that the fans will get one of the best fights of the year on September 15th... Victor Ortiz against WBC light-middleweight champ Saul Alvarez. Personally, I think it is the best fight to be announced in recent years. Both fighters are young, hungry and desperate to prove themselves. It will also be the toughest test of 21-year old Alvarez's already spectacular career.

"You know, I actually don't have anything to prove to Berto, besides putting him to sleep on a second occasion," said Ortiz. "The only reason I ever agreed to fight him to begin with because there was a promise and a clause that if I beat Berto again, I would fight Mayweather. So I was all for it 110%."

There you go. Ortiz is 100% focused on his next two opponents, but there is also one other men that he desperately wants too fight. And that man is Floyd Mayweather Jr. 'Money' sucker punched and then knocked out Ortiz in their first fight, leaving 'Vicious' annoyed and desperate to get revenge.

"I strongly believe I have unfinished business with Floyd. I'm sure Floyd knows it too, he just tries to say he doesn't. At the end of the day though, the Floyd thing and everything is not what I'm working for right now. Josesito Lopez on June 23rd is and that's what it's going to be until June 23rd."

If everything goes well for Ortiz and he doesn't lose his head like he did in his fight with Mayweather, it could be a really good year for him.

Alvarez Vs Ortiz made official!

It's official! Saul Alvarez Vs Victor Ortiz has been confirmed for September 15th. This is one of the best fights that has been made this year and many people already believe that it could be a potential fight of the year if it lives up to it's expectation.

WBC light-middleweight champion Alvarez has had a lot of bad luck with his opponents recently. Firstly, there was the tragic motorcycle accident involving his original opponent Paul Williams, and then as a replacement he was set to face American up and coming talent James Kirkland. But, this fight fell through due to an injury suffered by Kirkland. However, none of this matters any more. We now have an even better fight to look forward to!
Ortiz and Lopez both have very exciting fighting styles and it seems almost impossible that the two young men will not provide the fans with a great night of entertainment on September 15th.

Ortiz already has a fight scheduled for June 23rd, but luckily for him it is looking to be a relatively easy night for him against Josesito Lopez. Providing that Ortiz does not lose or suffer an injury during that fight, the bout between him and Alvarez is a definite.

The fight will be shown on Showtime PPV and it is the first pay-per-view event since the Pacquiao-Mosley fight in May of last year. Showtime should have no problems getting fans to pay to watch this. I don't know a single boxing fan that will be willing to pay the small fee to watch such a fantastic fight. The event, which is named Knockout Kings, will feature a twist. There will be a $100,000 bonus for the fighter who scores the knockout of the night, which will be voted for by the fans. The reward is available to every fighter on the card, not just the televised fights.

The highly anticipated bout is made even more interesting due to the fact that both men are desperate to prove themselves. Ortiz is coming off of a knockout loss against pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr so he wants to show the world that he is back and more ready than ever to carry on competing at the top level of the sport. Alvarez is completely different. He is coming off of one of the best performances of his career. On May 5th he retired ring veteran Shane Mosley and dominated almost every round of the fight. However, he still has his doubters and he wants to prove to them that at just 21-years old, he is already at the level to compete with the best fighters in the world.

What a great night it is looking to be. Two young and hungry fighters battling to prove that are the top fighter in the world at light-middleweight right now.

Andre Berto may not have been cheating!

A further analysis of Andre Berto's failed VADA drug test reveal traces nandrolone so minute that is almost certainly contamination, rather than an attempt to cheat. It could have even been picked mistakenly in some sort of food or supplement.

Gabriel Montoya revealed all there is to know last night: "Sources have informed me that analysis of Berto's positive tests results for nandrosterone (a metabolic byproduct of nandrolone) revealed "ultra-trace amounts of Nandrolone in the low parts per trillion range and consistent with contamination not intent... In other words, the amount in his system is so minute [very little] that it is highly unlikely that he intentionally ingested nandrolone but was rather contaminated by food or a supplement."


Now, this is definitely good news for Berto and his team but there's still going to be those people who never believe this story and will always have Andre Berto and his team down as drug cheats. 


One thing that has been proved, is that these VADA tests work very well and they will pick up any illegal substance that is in your body so there is no way of cheating the test. This is good for the sport but not always good for the fighters as they may not be taking these substances in an attempt to cheat. It's likely that they just don't know what it is or they don't actually even know they are using it, if they have picked it up in food, drink or supplement.


Victor Ortiz's manager Rolando Arrelano spoke out in support of the tests and thinks that this type of testing should be embraced by all.


"If you are reluctant to hire someone or something that's going to improve your sport and protect the safety of the fighter, then that's a problem. That's not what this is supposed to be about. The fighters are the essence of the sport. Without them, there's no managers, no promoters and no boxing content," said Arellano. "So as a sport, we need to take care of the people who provide paychecks for all of us. If you're not looking out for the fighter, I mean, if that's the case, then that means that you're condoning potentially illegal substances for the purpose of the almighty dollar."


All of this means one thing, boxers and their trainers are going to have to become experts and make sure they know whatever they are taking is legal. This is harder than it sounds because it's impossible to know sometimes. VADA are probably going to have to offer lessons and advice to those who want it so they can make sure that they know what is going into their body.

Lopez set to replace Berto on June 23rd...

Californian light-welterweight Josesito Lopez looks as though he is going to be the fighter who replaces Andre Berto in a fight with Victor Ortiz on June 23rd. As you all know, Berto tested positive for drugs meaning that he is not allowed to box so Ortiz is in need of a new opponent.

Lopez (29-4, 17 KO's) was set to face Kendall Holt on June 22nd but the fight was called off due to a disagreement about the venue. So as both men are looking for an opponent and their fights were scheduled for almost exactly the same it looks as though this is the fight that we are going to see at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles.

27-year old Lopez is not the first choice of opponent that the fans would chose but he is highly ranked at his weight and will provide a relatively tough challenge for Victor Ortiz. Lopez's last fight was against Jesse Vargas where he lost on points over ten rounds.

Ortiz has said that he will fight anyone between 140lb and 150lb and it looks as though this fight will take place in the welterweight division (147) so Lopez will be required to move up in weight. The fight will likely be confirmed later today or tomorrow.

Andre Berto tests positive for banned substance!

The highly anticipated rematch between Andre Berto and Victor Ortiz has been cancelled as former welterweight world champ Berto has tested positive for the steroid norandrosterone. He denied using a banned substance but it has been confirmed that the test was correct and the fight is definitely off.

The fight was scheduled for June 23rd and it looks as if Ortiz will still be fighting on that date against an opponent that will be announced shortly. Many people would love him to face British light-welterweight Amir Khan, who was set to fight tonight until his fight was cancelled due to the fact that Lamont Peterson tested positive for a PED in a random drug test. It is unlikely that this fight will happen but it will be great for the fans and for the good of the sport if it does.

Promoter Lou DiBella commented on the situation: "I know he tested positive. "I have nothing else to say. I don't know all of the details so I have nothing else to say."


Ortiz's promoter Robert Schaefer also gave his thoughts: "Obviously, we are disappointed that Berto's 'B' sample came back positive. I was informed late Saturday of the 'A' sample testing positive and urged an immediate testing of the 'B' sample. We just got the results that the 'B' sample tested positive as well. It's unfortunate. We have to see what happened because I don't know."


"This is obviously a very unpleasant situation to say the least, but at the same time, there is no room for any form of performance-enhancing drug use in boxing. I am not accusing Berto of anything, but that happens when you want to clean up the sport and you agree as a fighter and promoter to go through these kinds of procedures. I hope this will lead athletes to be more careful with what they eat or drink or take. Everybody needs to educate themselves more about what is permitted and what it is not permitted. But if it takes two or three or four fights to be canceled, so be it. There can be zero tolerance for the use of banned substances."


Andre Berto denied using a banned substance and explained that he is shocked that the test came back positive.


"At the present time, I cannot explain the positive drug test, which was provided as part of a voluntary anti-doping program in which I agreed to participate," Berto said in a statement. "I know that I have never used any steroids or other banned substances, and I am investigating all possible causes of the positive test with my attorney, Howard Jacobs. I have never cheated, and all of my success has come from hard work and dedication."


The first fight between the two men was voted as 'Fight Of The Year' and every boxing fan in the world was looking forward to seeing it again but unfortunately that is not going to happen. Ironically, after the first fight Berto accused Ortiz of taking Performance Enhancing Drugs and Ortiz's manager Rolando Arellano was quick to point this out. 


"When you point the finger there's three pointing back at you, but we will take the high road. We're going to give this guy the benefit of the doubt... We want to fight him and he wants to fight us, so we are going to wait until there is a complete fact finding in this case. We know what VADA has to say and we're curious what about what Berto has to say. Hopefully, there is something that went wrong. Maybe the jars got mixed up. But it doesn't look that way. Victor will go on, but this is awful for boxing fans who wanted to see another fight of the year."


Ortiz, reportedly went straight to the gym as soon as he found out that Berto had tested positive. So it looks like he still intends to fight on June 23rd, no matter who it is against.

What next for Malignaggi?

Yesterday evening (29th April) American welterweight Paulie Malignaggi became the new WBA world champion after beating Vyacheslav Senchenko in Ukraine.

This has brought the WBA belt out of the 'black hole' of the Soviet Bloc boxing world as before this fight, Senchenko was just taking easy fights so he knew that he would keep his title. It has also opened up the welterweight division and made it far more exciting. Sure, this win will not affect the likes of Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao but it is a significant event for the lower tier of fighters that are not quite good enough for the elite level yet as they now believe they can become a world champion.

But, the question is... Where next for Malignaggi?

He is in a great position at the moment as he basically has the choice to fight anyone he wants as they will all jump at the chance of winning a world title. He could take a few easy fights to get a few defences of the belt out of the way but I don't think that Malignaggi is the type of guy who would do that.

His other option is to take try and land a fight with a big name in the division. This is what I can see him doing as he is craving for a big payday. Many people want to see him fight British prospect Kell Brook in a well-paid fight in the UK. Brook has already shown an interest in this fight but Golden Boy have said that this fight doesn't have much chance of happening.

Another option would be to fight Devon Alexander who is also promoted by Golden Boy. This would win-win situation for the promotion company and a fight that both fighters would believe they stand a good chance in.

The third option, which is the one I think that is most likely to happen is that Malignaggi will fight the winner of Victor Ortiz Vs Andre Berto. The fight would receive a considerable amount of interest and Paulie would also get a big payday.

When you look at the big picture.. There is two main options for the champ. He can either fight an unknown and low-level opponent and keep the title or he can cash in on a big payday and risk losing the WBA belt.

The Daily Star reports that Golden Boy is again talking about a fight between former light-welterweight champion Amir Khan and the No.1 P4P fighter in the world Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Prior to his loss against Lamont Peterson, Khan was being promoted  by Golden Boy as Mayweather's next opponent. But, now that he has lost againt Peterson, nobody can really take Khan calling Mayweather out seriously. However, Golden Boy still believe that Khan will be the fighter that will be the first to cause Mayweather any trouble.

"Assuming all goes well and he wins against Peterson, he then moves up to welterweight. But I am not so sure if the first fight will be against Floyd, because at that weight it may not be the smartest thing to do. In a perfect world, I'd like Amir to have one fight at that weight before fighting Mayweather - but if that fight presents itself we would discuss it."

Most fans know that Khan is nowhere near the level that Mayweather is, but they also understand that there is no one else for Mayweather to face. There is the Ortiz-Berto II winner but neither of them would attract as much attention from the United Kingdom as Khan would. And that's what Mayweather is all about... The money, and bigger fighters attract bigger amounts of money.

Both fighters are fighting in the next month and both of their opponents will provide a tough test. Mayweather faces light-middleweight world champ Miguel Cotto and Khan faces light-welterweight champion Lamont Peterson.

Providing that both win their next fights then the fight we could be seeing at the end of the year or maybe the start of next year is Floyd 'Money' Mayweather Vs Amir 'King' Khan.

Can Cotto avoid a mental breakdown?

Floyd Mayweather's uncle and trainer Roger Mayweather has again 
bad-mouthed one of Floyd's opponents and this time it is Miguel Cotto. 

This is what he answered when asked how he thinks his nephew's fight 
with Cotto on May 5th will go:

"I already know what Floyd’s going to do. Cotto aint sh*t. Floyd’s 
going to stop his motherf**king ass. ... He ain't no different than 
Victor Ortiz. Floyd will stop him. I guarantee you he will stop him." 

We are not sure if Roger actually knows what he is saying when he talks 
about Cotto being no different from Ortiz but he could be surprisingly 
the slightest bit right. 

Many believe that Cotto is now past his prime and that he doesn't have 
the mental toughness to perform at the elite level anymore. Now, I am a 
big fan of Cotto but I can't disagree with this. 

He broke down against Antonio Margarito back in 2008 and again against 
Manny Pacquiao in 2009. He didn't actually quit in both of the fights 
but you could tell he wanted to. In his fight with Margarito he 
repeatedly took a knee until his trainer pulled him out and against 
Pacquiao he was only focused on not getting hurt, which led to the 
referee stopping the fight in the 12th round.

Although Ortiz and Cotto both do have some 'mental' problems whilst 
fighting, it is in very different ways. When Ortiz is under big 
pressure or is being beaten up, he seems to lose his head and do 
whatever it takes to slow his fighter down. For example, his headbutt 
against Mayweather which resulted him being knocked whilst apologising.
Whereas Cotto backs down quietly and slowly whilst under pressure which 
is why the referee finds it easy to find an opportunity to stop the 
fight. 

All of this means that Miguel Cotto is going to have it very tough in 
his fight on May 5th as Mayweather tests anyone who steps in the ring 
with him... Physically and mentally! 

Most people are assuming that Cotto will just be another victim for 
Floyd Mayweather on May 5th... But, will we see him be broken down in 
what could be his last big fight of his career?
