On the undercard of Mayweather-Canelo at the MGM Grand last night, we were treated to a mouth-watering contest between light-welterweight rivals Danny Garcia and Lucas Matthysse, two of the hardest punchers in world boxing today. Despite Garcia being the unified champ and current 140lb king, not many people gave him a chance against the Argentinian who was in fantastic from going into this fight, stopping his previous six opponents in emphatic fashion, the last one being IBF world champ Lamont Peterson.

A frenzy of hype has surrounded the build-up to the September 14th mega-event entitled ‘The One’, when the eyes of the boxing world once again fall on the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Once again, a certain Floyd Mayweather Jr is the primary reason for the allure, as he takes on Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in the biggest fight of the year and – potentially – the richest fight in history.

Guerrero loses lead in final 2 days! Landslide victory for Floyd!

It's getting closer and closer, and the excitement is building... We're just days away from the highly-anticipated return of the pound-for-pound king Floyd 'Money' Mayweather (43-0, 26 KO's)! On Saturday May 4th he takes on Robert 'The Ghost' Guerrero (31-1, 18 KO's) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. 

I don't need to explain to you how big this fight is. The fact that we received more votes for this fight than any other shows just how excited the fans are for Floyd's return and also how intrigued they are to see if Guerrero really can give the WBC champ the toughest fight of his career so far. 

At first it looked as though we were going to see a big upset in the polls when the voting started this week. Robert Guerrero was actually pulling ahead after the first day or so but couldn't hold onto the lead as Floyd received more and more votes and moved further and further ahead in the final two days.

There isn’t just one world title fight in Las Vegas this weekend. Of course, there’s the one everyone’s talking about between the pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather and Robert Guerrero, but on the undercard we could well be treated to an even more exciting and action-packed world title fight between Daniel Ponce De Leon and Abner Mares. De Leon will be looking to make the first defence of his WBC featherweight title against the highly-rated former 118 & 122lb champion Mares.

Mares has a perfect record of 25-0 with 13 KO’s with victories over some of the best fighters in the sport at bantamweight and super-bantamweight. Wins over guys like Vic Darchinyan, Joseph Agbeko, Eric Morel and most recently Anselmo Moreno have propelled him to superstardom and put him in a position where he stands just a few fights away from becoming one of the sports pound-for-pound best - That’s if he isn’t already there. This will be his first fight at featherweight and he will be diving straight into the deep end when he takes on WBC champ Ponce De Leon.

On Saturday night Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather returns to his playground, the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, where he defends his WBC welterweight title against his mandatory challenger Robert ‘The Ghost’ Guerrero. There’s much more at stake than a championship however with Guerrero eyeing super-stardom and believing he’s on a mission from God. For Mayweather, his long unbeaten record is on the line, as well as the promise of zenith-reaching millions in the near future.

That’s because the highest paid athlete on the planet last year signed an estimated $250 million deal with Showtime in February, contractually obliging him to fight on the US television network six times over the next 30 months. Given that Floyd has fought four times in five years it’s a dramatic change in activity for the consensus pound-for-pound number one and a loss to Guerrero could potentially jeopardise the retirement fund, derailing the six-fight money train.

Freddie Roach: Pacquiao needs the KO or he'll lose.

On December 8th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez go head-to-head in the ring for a fourth time.

The results from the three fights have been a draw, a split decision win for Pacquiao and then another win for him, this time by majority decision. However, all three of these fights were very controversial, especially the last two, and a lot of people believe that Marquez deserved to win all three, if not at least two.

This could be seen as an advantage for Marquez heading into their fourth fight as the judges may actually be on his side for once. If a dodgy decision was given to 'Pacman' again then there would be uproar throughout the whole boxing world. Even the Filipino's trainer, Freddie Roach, realises that his fighter may have been a little "lucky" in the previous fights and he believes that Pacquiao will need the knockout if he is to win this fight and prove that he is still up there with the pound-for-pound contenders.

"I've had three chances to come up with the strategy and the style to beat this guy and we haven't done well in any of them and the last one was the worst. Marquez put the muscle on and he kind of landed the power shots in that fight," said Roach. "A lot of people thought we lost that fight... But I need to get Manny to get that killer instinct back. To be pound-for-pound the best fighter in the world, I think we need to knock this guy out. I don't think we'll win a decision regardless of how the fight goes."
