The Fans Have Voted: Who should Broner face next?

By Jack Price - @BoxingOpinions1

In the aftermath of another top night of boxing, one man is still on everybody's mind, Adrien 'The Problem' Broner. The brash youngster became a 3-weight world champion at the age of 23, stepping up two weight divisions and winning the WBA welterweight title via split decision against Paulie Malignaggi.

It wasn't the most impressive performance from the American but a win is a win and he is still very much a superstar in the sport, a very controversial one too. Controversy isn't always good but in his case it is because the fans just don't stop talking about him. He's making an impression, he's causing a "problem." The main talking point at the moment is where he goes next. Does he stay at welter and defend his title? or will he drop down to light-welter to win another world title? Or maybe even right back down to lightweight to defend his title there? We just don't know. But we do know who will be back in action in another big fight very soon.

Here is who the fans want to see him face:

1. Lucas Matthysse - 33%
2. Marcos Maidana - 20%
3. Amir Khan - 12%
4. Robert Guerrero - 8%
5. Kell Brook - 8%

Other fighters to be mentioned: Keith Thurman, Ricky Burns, Victor Ortiz, Devon Alexander, Danny Garcia.

So it's clear to see, with a whopping 33% of the votes, the fight most people want to see is Broner-Matthysse. Whether this is because they think this would be a great fight or they just want to see Broner knocked out, we don't know. But we still want to see it happen either way.

Marcos Maidana seems like the most likely opponent next for Broner, and it's a fight that a lot of people would like to see. I'd expect a Broner in this one but Maidana would definitely test his chin and heart. The fact that guys like Kell Brook and Keith Thurman were mentioned shows that some people are still not sold on Broner and think that even guys like this could test him already. My personal choice would be Danny Garcia and I'm surprised more people don't want to see that fight. I just think stylistically it would produce the most excitement. A few people mentioned Ricky Burns but that fight seems to have been forgotten about because it looks very unlikely that Broner will step all the way back down to 135.

The fact that so many fighters were mentioned shows that the opportunities really are endless for Broner right now. He's one of the biggest names in all three of the stacked divisions he can fight him and with a world title around his waist he will be targeted. Whoever he fights next, I'm sure we'll all tune in to watch this exciting young man in action!
