De La Hoya denies all rumours.

There have been a few rumours flying around that ring legend Oscar De La Hoya is eyeing a return to the ring. What is even more bizarre about these rumours is that people have been saying that the 39-year old is looking to fight the winner of Saul Alvarez Vs Shane Mosley.

As you know, De La Hoya is Alvarez's promoter for Golden Boy, so the idea that this fight could happen is insane. Unless they are planning a stunt where Alvarez and De La Hoya share the ring and Oscar just lays down for the young champion to try and improve Canelo's reputation. But, I can't see this happening as De La Hoya has too much pride as a fighter to do this.

This is what De La Hoya had to say about the rumours: "The rumours that have been circulating, I've been hearing. It's just rumours that I'll be fighting the winner of this fight. That's not true. These guys are too difficult for me."

Another rumour that has been flying around is that the 39-year old will headline the the Golden Boy show at the new Barclays Centre on October 20th but it looks as if that show will instead be led by WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi and Devon Alexander.

De La Hoya's last fight came in 2008 when he lost to Manny Pacquiao. He ended his career with a record of 39-6, 30 KO's and won world titles in six different weight divisions. Although it would be great to see this man back in the ring, I do not think it is beneficial for his health or his reputation... He is already a legend in the sport, he doesn't have to prove himself anymore.

The day has finally come! Floyd Mayweather Jr Vs Miguel Cotto and Saul Alvarez Vs Shane Mosley... It is expected to be the one of the biggest nights of boxing in the past 100 years. Something that supports this argument is the capacity for the weigh-in. Over 5,000 fans were there just to watch the fighters step on the scales. That number of fans is more than most prizefights attract.

Anyway, we will have more hype and build up for the fight later on, but now we will just give you all of the details and results from yesterday's weigh-in.

Alvarez and Mosley both looked in very good condition for as they walked onto the stage. Mosley was the first to step onto the scales and to his astonishment he was 1/2lb over the maximum weight (154). He was given an hour to shed it off. 'Canelo' weighed exactly 154lb and he looked stronger and healthier than he ever has before. Even for the chief support weigh-in the atmosphere was amazing. But, you could tell when
Mayweather and Cotto had entered the room. The crowd went crazy for both fighters although there were some boo's for Mayweather.

'Money' Mayweather was first to step on the scales and he weighed in at the heaviest he has ever been in his 42 fight career, but he seemed very happy to see 151lb come up on the scales. Cotto tipped the scales at 154lb and he looked a little dry which means he may have struggled to get down to the weight.

When the two fighters went face-to-face we finally got a bit of the trash-talking and tension we have been waiting for during the build-up to this fight. Neither of them moved a muscle for around a minute (except for Mayweather's vigorous chewing of his gum) until finally Mayweather opened his mouth and told Cotto what he has told every other fighter that has stood infront of him. "You can't beat Floyd Mayweather baby!" At first Cotto just shook his head but then after a few more harsh words from Mayweather he started to talk back. At one point it looked as if we were going to see the two of them have a fight 24 hours early until they were seperated by the entourages.

In the interviews with Max Kellerman both fighters had a lot to say. Mayweather told Kellerman that he felt comfortable at the weight and that Cotto looked a little 'dry'. Cotto claimed that he will give Mayweather all he can handle and more and that he had never been more ready for a fight.

I am personally very excited for this fight, more than I have been for any other fight this year, and what makes it even better is that we also get to see a few other great fights before the main event (Irish Prizefighter, McCloskey Vs Corley, Huck Vs Afolabi and Alvarez Vs Mosley).

Canelo Vs Mosley: Fight Purses

Light-middleweight champion Saul Alvarez will receive $1.2 million for his his fight with Shane Mosley on the undercard of Mayweather-Cotto. This is almost twice as much as what Mosley will be paid.

That's right, this will be the first fight in a very long time that 'Sugar' Shane Mosley will be earning less than $1 million. He will end up with a purse of around $650,000 which is good for supporting fight but it is nowhere as much as what he has been earning recently. In his last five fights Mosley made $1.5 million against Ricardo Mayorga, $1.2 million against Antonio Margarito, $1 million against Sergio Mora, $5 million against Manny Pacquiao and over $7 million in his showdown with Floyd Maywether. So why has his pay suddenly been cut so massively?.. Is it a sign that he is no longer a main attraction or is just that he will be in the ring with someone who is an even bigger star than he is.

We all know why Alvarez is getting so much. He is arguably the biggest Mexican star around today (maybe Juan Manuel Marquez) and has attracted huge TV numbers against fighters that are not necessarily big stars. When you look at who Marquez has faced when he's drawn in big numbers, it's been people like Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather. Whereas Alvarez has done it against people like Matthew Hatton and Ryan Rhodes who are nowhere near in the same league as 'Pacman' or 'Money'. At the age of 21, to receive a seven figure amount in a fight on a undercard is amazing. This just shows how much of a star 'Canelo' is.

This is a must win fight on May 5th for Mosley. If he loses he will no longer be a main attraction and his pay will drop even more, but if he does manage to upset the odds he will see his pay rise again. It is also a must-win for Canelo as it is first real test as a pro so he needs to prove to the world that he can mix with the best.

Mayweather & Mosley team up for fundraising event...

Boxing greats Floyd 'Money' Mayweather and 'Sugar' Shane Mosley are teaming up to present a fundraising event in Las Vegas next month. The event is called "Spring Of Style" and it will take place on the 3rd of May. 


The two boxer's charities are The Floyd Mayweather Foundation and Sugar Shane Mosley's Diamond Love Foundation. The event will be in conjunction with the 'Ring Kings' mega-fight on May 5th, where Mayweather takes on light-middleweight champion Miguel Cotto and Mosley faces young and powerful Saul Alvarez.


"Spring Of Style" is expected to be a high profile event and the tickets will cost around $75. Fashion previews and other entertainment will be available. The sponsors of the event are Mayweather Promotions, Philthy Rich Records, Regal Management, Shane Mosley Promotions and Mr & Mrs 'T-shirt Lifestyle Brand'.


“I am committed to giving back to the community and this fundraiser will assist my foundation’s continued efforts to do so,” said Mayweather. “Shane and I are both fighting for our careers in the ring, but we are blessed to be in a position to help those less fortunate and support causes outside the ring too. I know the entire boxing world will be in town for my fight and I expect a great turnout for the event.”


Shane Mosley, who lost to Mayweather in 2010 is also very happy to be helping the less-fortunate. 


“I am thrilled to be a part of this fight and have the opportunity to work with Floyd outside of the ring to support our charities,” said Mosley. “We both feel strongly about helping at-risk youth so the two of us coming together to better the community is a great opportunity.”


This is a great thing for the sport of boxing. Not very often do we get two big ring icons that team up and host a charity event together. 

Mayweather Vs Alvarez could happen soon...

Golden Boy CEO Robert Schaefer has been ranting about Saul Alvarez being good enough to take on P4P No.1 Floyd Mayweather Jr for a very long time. But, nobody has paid that much attention to it.

In the past we all thought it was just a way of building Alavarez's reputation but we can see now that in the weight division Mayweather is now in there is no one else that we will provide him with a challenge if he beats Miguel Cotto. Most people believe now that Mayweather Vs Pacquiao will never happen so a fight with Alvarez is the next best thing. The 21-year old is young, strong and in his prime and Floyd Mayweather is in his mid 30's but he is still classed by many as the greatest fighter in the world.

Oscar De La Hoya has also admitted that a fight between Alvarez and Mayweather is definitely in Golden Boy's long term plans.

"The Alvarez-Mosely winner goes on to bigger and better things, that's a given... They can go on to face the winner of Ortiz-Berto or Mayweather-Cotto," said Golden Boy's main promoter.

Alvarez has appeared as chief support and Mayweather's last two fights and he will do the same on May 5th when he takes on Shane Mosely on the undercard of Mayweather Vs Miguel Cotto.

A fight between these two would be very easy to make as Mayweather is the biggest selling fighter in the world and Alvarez has also started to gain a lot of fans and a lot of popularity. The fight may not happen this year as Mayweather is due to report to prison on June 1st and he has to stay there for a minimum of three months. But, as long as both of the fighters keep on winning,the anticipation will build and somewhere down the line we will see a great fight between Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and Floyd 'Money' Mayweather.

Three Big Fights Lined Up For Kell Brook!

After his fantastic performance against Matthew Hatton last week, Kell Brook and his promoter Eddie Hear want to move on to bigger and better things. To do this they have lined three great opponents for the Sheffield star's next fight.

 The three names mentioned were: Marcos Maidana, Shane Mosely and Paulie Malignaggi. A win against any of these three opponents would almost certainly make 'The Special Ones' reputation even better than it already is and cement his place as a world class fighter in the weight division. After all, he has already proved he's No.1 in Britain, now he just needs to prove that he's got what it takes to one day maybe be No.1 in the world.

Hearn announced the three boxers he wants Brook to face this week on Sky's TV show Ringside: "Maidana would be a dream fight. There's certain issues but he still holds the WBA light-welterweight title despite his loss at welterweight to Devon Alexander. All those kind of names - Maidana, Paulie Malignaggi, Sugar Shane Mosley - they're the names you want to bring out."

 Although some people will say that all three of the possible opponents are past their best, there is no doubt that it will be a good test for Brook and will also begin to get him more known in other countries as well as Great Britain.

 So... Even if we don't get to see the highly anticipated fight between Kell Brook and Amir Khan, we still know that we will get to see Brook in a tough and entertaining fight in the summer.
