87% picking Golovkin to win. Enters as huge favorite!
On Saturday night (June 29th) WBA and IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin defends his title for the third time already this year against highly-rated British/Irish 160lber Matthew Macklin. The fight takes place at the MGM Grand at the Foxwords resort in Connecticut.
Despite this being by far the toughest test of Golovkin's career to date, he still enters this fight as the huge favorite. Macklin is a 2-time world title challenger, a hard-hitting fighter with a lot of heart and one of the best middleweight fighters in the world today but people are still giving him little chance against 'GGG.' This is because the Kazakhstani is expected to be one of the biggest and most dangerous superstars in the sport in years to come, if he isn't already.
Macklin will have a lot of British and Irish fans cheering him on this weekend, but not many of them will have too much confidence in their man, as show by the results of our recent vote on Twitter (@BoxingOpinions1):
Gennady Golovkin to win - 87%
Points: 17% KO: 83%
Matthew Macklin to win - 13%
Points: 0% KO: 100%
So you can see straight away that Golovkin is the huge favorite with 87% of the fans picking him to get the victory and 83% of them thinking it will be by KO. Macklin had very few people vote for him but those who did all said it will be by KO, highlighting the Irishman's power but also that there is next to nothing chance of him out-boxing Golovkin.
My prediction for this fight is Golovkin by late KO, an outcome that most people seem to be favoring. I expect Macklin to give it his best as always but to slowly but surely be broken down by the tactful and destructive Golovkin. I do however hope I am wrong and we see Macklin cause one of the biggest upsets in recent years. Britain and Ireland are behind you 'Mack!'
