63% picking Matthysse to win. 94% by KO!
This weekend, WBC interim light-welterweight champ Lucas Matthysse takes on IBF 140lb titleholder Lamont Peterson in what is expected by most to be an action-packed 'Fight Of The Year.' The reason for this that you have Matthysse, regarded by many as the hardest pound-for-pound puncher on the planet, getting the opportunity he so badly deserves to prove he can cut it at world level. However, the man opposite him in the ring will not just lay down and act as a stepping stone for the Argentinian. Lamont Peterson is a very, very tough and talented man and he will look to be with Matthysse every step of the way at the Boardwalk Hall on Saturday night.
Here is how the fans see this fight going:
Lamont Peterson to win - 37%
Points: 100% KO: 0%
Lucas Matthysse to win - 63%
Points: 94% KO: 6%
It's clear to see that Matthysse (33-2, 31 KO's) is devastating puncher, and the vote reflects that. But what we can also see from the vote is that some fan also believe that Peterson (31-1, 16 KO's) is the superior man when it comes to boxing ability. Only 6% of the votes for Matthysse were by points whereas everyone that voted for Peterson believes he will get a decision. This shows that if this fight does go the distance, the expected outcome is 'King' Pete on points.
The vote might not be a direct even split but I do think that most boxing fans and experts are viewing this as a 50/50 fight between to world-class fighters in their prime. It's the type of fight that everybody wants to see.
My official prediction for this fight is Lamont Peterson on points, probably by a very close split decision. But like 63% of the fans that voted, I will not be surprised if Matthysse, who may enter this fight as the slight favorite with the bookies, get the win. Nobody can foresee the future and be certain of the outcome, but one thing I think we can be sure of is that we are going to see a very good fight between these two men on Saturday night.
