Adamek Vs Cunningham - Blatant robbery?

Finally got the chance to watch the Adamek-Cunningam fight today. So many people beforehand had asked me my score and if I could collect scores for the fight. In my last article I was able to collect 98 scores from the Press and the Fans. I would probably have got more but I was at work in the middle of a 12 hour shift. My results showed that the vast majority had Steve Cunningham winning the fight. Of the 98 scores, 85 scored for Cunningham, 9 for Adamek and 4 a draw. Finally got the chance to watch the Adamek-Cunningam fight today. Now that I have watched the fight, i am in that vast majority that thought Cunningham won the fight. My scorecard of 116-113 (7-4-1 in rounds) is below. I cannot see how Adamek was given the decision. The only thing that could have happened is the flurries at the end of most rounds by Adamek must have fooled the judges into scoring the round for him. I'm sorry but fighting and landing only in the last 30-20 seconds of the round doesn't win you the fight especially when Cunningham was landing his jab followed by numerous right hand throughout the fight. Adamek merely followed Cunningham around for too much of the fight landing nothing of note. The rounds that Adamek won, it was clear that the Pole upped his work rate and actually matched his lighter opponent. The opening round was the only round where i scored a 10-10. It was a quiet round with the only scoring punches landed by the Cunningham jab. Adamek did land a few hooks in the last 20 seconds of the round. This is what swayed me to score 10-10, it was a quiet round where one flurry could alter the scoring of the round.

Cammarelle disgusted by loss to Joshua, Plans to turn pro...

Joshua awarded the victory over Cammarelle in a very close fight.
Former super-heavyweight Olympic champion Roberto Cammarelle claims that he was disgusted with amateur boxing after not being given the decision against Britain's Anthony Joshua in the final at the London Olympics on Sunday.

Cammarelle was looking to make history by defending the super-heavyweight title he won in Beijing back in 2008. The Italian won two out of the three rounds but Joshua put on a fantastic performance in the last round to bring the fight to a draw. Joshua, 22 was awarded the fight on countback and Cammarelle was left with a silver medal, which is still a great achievement but not what he was looking for.

The 32-year old's coach Francesco Damiani protested the result to the AIBA but was unsuccessful. Cammarelle also spoke out about the Olympic judging:

"It's not Joshua's fault, but the Olympics were held in London and here evidently somebody likes to win in this manner," said the Italian. "This type of boxing no longer represents me and I don't like it."

He also added that he will not be attempting to regain his Olympic title at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, he will now go into the pro ranks and start punching for pay.

Personally, I don't think the decision was actually that bad. The Italian was rightfully ahead by three points at the end of the second round, but Joshua did more than enough to level the score. Some of the decisions at London 2012 have been terrible, but this one wasn't.

I'm sure that a lot of people are really looking forward to see Cammarelle turn pro as he does have a good solid style that would be affective in the professional game and there's also a lot of good fights out there for him. The main one being a rematch with David Price. Cammarelle defeated Price in the semi-final of the 2008 Olympics meaning Price was left with bronze and the Italian went on to win gold. This fight would probably be way down the line in both of these men's career, probably after Cammarelle has eased into the pro ranks and Price has already fought some of the big guys (Either Klitschko, Haye, Fury, Povetkin). However, there are a lot of good match-ups in the near future; Rematch with Joshua, Dereck Chisora, Alexander Povetkin, Seth Mitchell, just to name a few.

Abril is willing to fight Rios again...

I guess you've all heard by now about the fight between Richard Abril and Brandon Rios. If you haven't, all you need to know is that Abril out-boxed Rios throughout the whole fight and won almost every round on most people's scorecards. But, Rios was the bigger name fighter and the home town favourite so two out of the three judges decided to give the decision to him. This caused uproar amongst the fans and the rest of the boxing world as they believed that Abril had been robbed of the WBA title.

The 29-year old Cuban is still very annoyed about the whole thing and has told  World Boxing News that he is still hoping to retain his interim WBA championship. He may then decide to move up to 140lb if an opportunity arises.

"We are still waiting for the rankings from the WBA, but I am confident I will be given a shot at the vacant title," said Abril.

"As soon as the first judge gave Rios the decision, I knew I had lost the fight and all the talk of holding after the bout was his team trying to justify the boxing clinic that I gave him... I am more than willing to move up to 140lb  and give Rios another schooling but I doubt Rios would accept the fight."

When he was asked whether he would like to fight the likes of Yuriorkis Gamboa or Sergio Thompson for the vacant belt, Abril answered: "I will fight King Kong if I have to. It doesn't matter who they offer me."

"If the opportunity came up to fight Juan Manuel Marquez,I would willingly move up to light-welterweight, not for any personal reasons against him.. Just as it would be an honour to share the ring with him," said  Abril.

A rematch between Abril and Rios is very unlikely to happen as I cannot see Rios and his team accepting that fight. The match that we have the most chance of seeing is probably Abril Vs Gamboa for the vacant belt. What a great fight that would be...
