Marcos Maidana Vs Josesito Lopez - Fight Preview

By @BoxingNews987

June 8th 2013 is the date for WAR! Hard hitting Argentinean Marcos "Rene"Maidana will face tough Californian Josesito Lopez. Both fighters have promised a War for this Saturday night, so us boxing fans are In for a massive treat.

Maidana known for his ferocious punching power is a tough customer for anyone in the 147lb division. Maidana has faced quality opposition throughout his whole career, with wins over former WBC Welterweight world champion Victor Ortiz, Mexican Great Erik Morales and tough veteran and former world champion Demarcus Corley. What made Maidana a household name in Boxing was his all out war with 2x light welterweight champion Amir Khan. After going down in the first round due to two well placed body shots, Maidana rose from the canvas and hurt Khan numerous times before losing the fight on a close points decision.

Maidana moved up to welterweight on 25/02/12 to face Devon Alexander in his (Maidana,s) first fight at 147lbs. Maidana lost the bout on a wide points decision, Maidana looked terrible throughout the whole fight and didn't look like he had the power he possesed when he was campaigning at 140lbs. Whoever thought Maidana's power had disappeared was wrong, he has returned with two wins. The first win was against tough Mexican Jesus Soto Karass in which Maidana won by TKO in the eight round, and in his last outing he got a KO over a tough Journeyman. Maidana's record consists of (33-3-0 30Ko's)

Josesito Lopez is the "Rocky" of Boxing. Lopez has been the underdog throughout his whole career. Lopez had a big fight against rising star Jessie Vargas In 2011 in which many thought Josesito had done enough to get the win. Vargas had an excellent record of (16-0-0) at the time. After that fight, Lopez still wasn't getting the recognition he deserved or craved. After the Vargas fight Lopez's career had stalled and he had no fight lined up. He then got the opportunity of a lifetime when Andre Berto failed a drugs test and was not allowed to go ahead with his rematch against Victor Ortiz. Lopez recieved the call from team Ortiz and accepted the fight straight away. Ortiz was meant to defeat Lopez and then move on to a Money Spinning fight against undefeated Mexican Saul Alvarez. Things didn't go to plan and Lopez stopped Ortiz in the ninth round of a war due to Ortiz breaking his jaw. After that huge win against Ortiz, Lopez decided to move up to the 154lbs class and face the much bigger Mexican Alvarez, Alvarez was to big and fast from the get go and TKO'd Lopez in the fifth round to retain his WBC title. This will be Lopez's first bout since the hammering he took from Alvarez.

My Prediction- I expect Maidana to wear down Lopez and win by KO in rounds 7-9. I do expect it to be a war with Lopez having his moments but Maidana's power being the difference in the end.
