Mayweather returns in May & September 2013! - Fans View

By Jack Price @PriceyJ97,

It was announced yesterday that pound-for-pound king and undefeated boxing superstar Floyd 'Money' Mayweather will be returning to the ring in May and September of next year!

Now, Mayweather is the most famous fighter and highest paid athlete in the world so it was obvious that the social networks were going to be on fire when the news was announced. We asked our Twitter followers who they would like to see the 35-year old face next, and this is what they had to say:

@Matesy84 - It will be Bradley then Pacquiao... Retire as the G.O.A.T.

@adamebond - I'd like to see him face Guerrero in May, with Alvarez on the undercard. If they both win, they should meet in September.

@Jack_Sumner_ - Would love to see @FloydMayweather fight the Pacman, but realistically not going to happen. Guerrero then maybe Canelo.

@OneMoreRound_KS - Trout and Canelo. But we all know he won't. He'll fight Garcia or Ricky Burns or someone...

@BillyW100 - I would still like a Pacman fight but that won't happen. Guerrero would be good then.

So as you can see, there is still a bit of scepticism but overall most fans are more excited about Mayweather's return than they have ever been before. The most wanted opponents seem to be Saul Alvarez and Robert Guerrero, with a few still calling for him to fight Pacquiao, but I did also spot a lot of people asking for Austin Trout after his impressive win over Miguel Cotto on December 1st. To be honest with you, if any of these men are announced as his next opponent, I along with many others, will be extremely happy as they're all deserving contenders.

You do actually get the feeling that Floyd will actually fight someone we want to see him face this time. And with his career seeming to be nearing the end, a lot of fans, including his some of his own, are expecting his undefeated streak to come to an end.

Now, I do not for one second think that Mayweather has declined enough to be emphatically beat by any of these four but I do agree that all of them have what it takes to give him the toughest fight of his career. Barring Pacquiao, they're all young, hungry and desperate to prove themselves.

I think the most likely opponent is Saul Alvarez, and he's also the opponent I'm hoping for. The first date scheduled for Mayweather (May 4th) is being promoted as 'Cinco De Mayweather' so a Mexican opponent is the most likely. Alvarez is also scheduled to fight in May so hopefully we will see these two men meet face-to-face in the ring next year.

If Mayweather does beat Alvarez then he can finish off his career with one last big fight in September. Or maybe he will chose to carry on fighting for the next few years. However, I believe that Floyd Mayweather is a smart man and will know when it is the right time to retire.
