McPhilbin Vs Maccarinelli rematch set for June 22nd!

McPhilbin knocks Maccarinelli to the canvas in first fight.
British cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli will make the first defence of his title in a rematch against Shane McPhilbin on June 22nd.

The first fight between the two fighters was one of the most controversial bouts in recent years. McPhilbin who was a big underdog knocked Maccarinelli down in the first round with 54 seconds left. Maccarinelli managed to rise to his feet but then for someone reason the timekeeper ended the round 47 seconds early. It is not definite that this mistake lost McPhilbin the title but Maccarinelli looked very unsteady and I think that one more punch in that round would have knocked him out cold. The former world title holder then went on to dominate the later rounds and win by a unanimous decision.

McPhilnin did not moan about the result but he did admit that he thought he deserved a rematch. Maccarinelli was very understanding and promised that there would be a rematch. The Welshman stuck to his word and the rematch has been arranged for June 22nd and it will be shown live on BoxNation.

Maccarinelli has said that if he wins the rematch he will return to light-heavyweight and try and land a fight with current WBO world champion Nathan Cleverly.
