New Mexico boxing superstar Austin Trout was reportedly arrested in the early hours of New Year's day in Texas on "suspicion of public intoxication," according to the El Paso Times.
Police were called to a restaurant for a report of a fight and witnesses identified Trout and a few others as being involved. Officers then noticed that Trout and the others had "slurred speech and unsteady balance" whilst they were talking to them. According to the newspaper, Trout was put in his cell at 8:50am and bailed out just a few hours later.
'No Doubt' Trout is coming off of the biggest win of his career. On December 1st 2012 he defeated former pound-for-pound contender and boxing legend Miguel Cotto via unanimous decision.
The 27-year old's promoter, Greg Cohen, told Steve Kim of MaxBoxing.com that the charge was "ridiculous" and that they "will work vigorously to have this incident be taken off the record."
Trout is looking likely to face Mexican superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather Vs TBA on May 4th.
