"Chunky" was set to defend the belt against mandatory challenger Mouhamed Ali N'Diayeon January 26th at the Glow Arena in Bluewater, but was then told by the WBC that if he wanted to keep the silver title, he would have to vacate the EBU belt.
However, he managed to get special permission from the organisation to keep both belts. Despite all of this, the 2008 Olympic gold medallist has once again decided to get rid of the EBU title and will instead defend the WBC belt against a different opponent on the same date, at the same venue.
N'Diaye will now face the man who has put the only loss on DeGale's record, 'Saint George Groves', for the vacant European title. The purse bids for this fight have been set for January 4th.
