Adrien Broner to face Gavin Rees on February 16th!

By Jack Price @PriceyJ97.

According to reports, WBC lightweight world champion Adrien Broner will face British champion Gavin Rees at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City on February 16th.

Now, a lot of people are calling this a terrible mismatch, and to be completely honest, I don't blame them. Rees is a good fighter, he always gives it his all, he's a top-class fighter at domestic and European level, but he's just not in the same league as Adrien Broner. However, we can't really moan at either of the two men for taking this fight. For Rees it is an opportunity of a life time and he's never going to turn a fight like this down. And for Broner, who else is there to fight? There's a lot of better fighters at lightweight than Gavin Rees but I'm sure that not many of them are willing to face Broner.

This fight is only really happening so that Broner can get one over on Britain. The highly-anticipated bout between "The Problem" and Ricky Burns has been talked about for months but still looks no more likely to happen. Broner may see this as an opportunity to entice British fans into a fight between him and Burns. The more people that are asking for this fight, especially in Britain, the more likely it is to happen. If we all see Broner toy and beat up one of our fighters, we are going to want to see him face our No.1 lightweight as soon as possible. Hopefully Burns will be up for getting some revenge too.

Rees, ranked #2 WBA, #5 WBO & #15 IBF, has been looking for another shot at a world title for the last year or so. Ricky Burns was his main target, but I'm sure Rees doesn't really care who he's getting with. He may even believe that he stands more chance of beating Broner because of his style, we just don't know. There's not much chance of him winning, but I can guarantee British fans will still get behind their man on February 16th!
