According to CompuBox, Herrera actually landed more punches but it was clear to most people watching that Mayfield was doing the more eye-catching work. He landed the cleaner shots and managed to just avoid most of Herrera's landed punches, meaning they were not really clean shots.
For Mayfield it is just another step forward in his journey to the top of the light-welterweight division. At the age of 31, it is time for him to step up in class once again and move ever closer to his dream of a world title shot. For Herrera, now 32, it is another slight step back. He has now lost two in a row, and three overall. But to be fair to Herrera, his last two losses have come to Mike Alvarado who is without doubt a world class fighter and of course Karim Mayfield. Don't expect this to be the last time you see Herrera in a meaningful fight.
