Khan Vs Garcia on July 14th!

World light-welterweight champion Danny Garcia.
British pound-for-pound contender Amir Khan will now fight WBC light-welterweight champion Danny Garcia in Las Vegas on July 14th. He was originally set to fight Lamont Peterson on May 19th but the bout was cancelled due to the fact that Peterson tested positive in a drug test. This left Khan looking for a new opponent and there was only really two men mentioned, Garcia and Erik Morales, and today it has been announced that he will fight Garcia.

Earlier today the Khan (26-2, 18 KO's) tweeted saying "May the best man win on 14. July. Khan vs Garcia."

It is still not entirely clear what titles will be on the line for the fight but Khan's promoters Golden Boy are trying to have Peterson-Khan fight from December overturned to a no-contest so that the WBA and IBF light-welterweight belts return to Khan. These belts are needed or the fight will not be able to happen as Garcia has mandatory defence against Ajose Olusegun and the only way he can fight anybody else is if it is a unification bout.

Garcia (23-0, 14 KO's) will provide a tough test for Khan although he is not as known as some of the fighters, such as Mayweather, that the 25-year old has been calling out. However, he is young, up and coming star that can box and brawl. He is coming off a great performance where he knocked out ring veteran Erik Morales to win the WBC title.

The co-feature on the card will be American heavyweight prospect Seth Mitchell against Johnathon Banks.
