Alvarez set to headline PPV... Kirkland is a potential opponent!

WBC world champ Saul Alvarez.
Mexican prospect and WBC light-middleweight champion Saul Alvarez is set to headline his own pay-per-view event at the MGM Grand on September 15th. To make things event better... light-middleweight contender James Kirkland is likely to be the opponent.

Kirkland (31-1, 27 KO's) is the perfect test for 'Canelo' (40-0-1, 29 KO's). He is a tricky and strong fighter but he does have some flaws technically. However, it will most likely be Alvarez's hardest fight to date and his first real test. You could argue that Sugar Shane Mosley was a tough opponent for him but in my opinion, Mosley was way past his best and didn't really come to win. Alvarez has a lot of doubters, which is probably the main reason that he took this fight. So he can prove to himself  and the fans that he was what it takes to mix it with some of the best fighters in the world.
James Kirkland.

The fight will be real easy for Golden Boy to make if they do chose Kirkland as the opponent. Both men are promoted by GB Promotions and both will jump at the chance of this fight as both feel they have something to prove.

Kirkland's last outing was against Carlos Molina. The referee made a very controversial decision to disqualify Molina because his corner man 'apparently' jumped into the ring whilst he was giving a count. Alvarez's last fight came on May 5th on the Mayweather-Cotto undercard. He was against 40-year old ring legend Shane Mosley. Alvarez dominated throughout most of the fight and was awarded the win by a unanimous decision.

If the fight does happen, it will definitely be one to watch. Both fighters are young, fresh and hungry. Whoever wins will have their career boosted massively but the loser could see their career ruined.
