Britain have a new world champion! There were a few exciting fights and impressive performances this week, but no fighter is more deserving of this than Jamie McDonnell. The 27-year old upset the odds and became Britain's most unlikely world champion with a majority decision victory over tough Mexican banger Julio Ceja. He now has a record of 21-2 with 9 KO's and is the new IBF bantamweight champion of the world.
It was always going to be a special night for McDonnell. He admitted before the fight that even just fighting for the world title in front of his home fans in Doncaster was a dream come true for him. He excelled under the pressure and put on a career-best performance to just edge Ceja, who still looks destined to be a star of the future.
