Malignaggi must face Chaves by January 27th...

WBA welterweight world champion Paulie Malignaggi has been given a deadline ofJanuary 27th to face interim-champion Diego Chaves.

Malignaggi picked up the title in April of this year putting on a career-best performance against Vyacheslav Senchenko. He then made a voluntary defence against Pablo Cesar Cano on October 20th in Brooklyn. Chaves won the interim-title in July and successfully defended the belt against Jose Miranda on September 22nd.

However, the Argentinian isn't the most likely opponent for Malignaggi. The "Twitter King" is expected to be the next in line to face Ricky Hatton if he is victorious in his comeback fight against former Malignaggi-victim Vyacheslav Senchenko. If a Hatton-Malignaggi rematch does happen, we can expect a deal to be reached between the WBA and Chaves.
